Database Savings Plans
Database Savings Plans are a flexible pricing model that reduces your database costs by up to 35% when you commit to a consistent amount of usage over a 1-year term. This savings plans automatically apply to eligible serverless and provisioned instance usage regardless of engine, instance family, size, deployment option, or AWS Region with no upfront payment. For example, with Database Savings Plan, you can change between instance types such as Aurora db.r7g and db.r8g instances, shift a workload from EU (Ireland) to US (Ohio), modernize from Amazon RDS for Oracle to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL or from RDS to Amazon DynamoDB and still benefit from the discounted rates.
For the same workload, you cannot combine Database Savings Plans with Amazon RDS Reserved Instances or Amazon DynamoDB reserved capacity discounts. However, you can buy a Reserved Instance or DynamoDB reserved capacity discount to apply to one workload and a Database Savings Plan to address another. Your usage automatically applies to your Database Savings Plan commitment at the discounted rate. Any usage beyond your commitment is billed at on-demand rates.
For guidance on purchasing Database Savings Plans, you can use Savings Plans Recommendations, which provides recommendations for maximum savings based on your historical usage. For customized analysis, Savings Plan Purchase Analyzer lets you simulate different purchase amounts and view the resulting savings, coverage and utilization based on historical usage. Once you purchase, you can monitor your usage in the Savings Plan coverage and utilization reports, which are available in the Billing and Cost Management Console. You can also use AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate the on-demand costs of your workload, and then use the results to decide on a Database Savings Plans commitment.
Every type of supported database usage has a Savings Plan rate and on-demand rate. Below you can see the Savings Plan rates and on-demand rates for every type of offering. You will be charged the Savings Plans rates on the committed usage and any usage beyond the commitment will be charged at regular on-demand rates.
