AWS helps Ring to enhance home and neighborhood safety
Ring Innovation
Ring’s enhanced smart home security system delivers 360-degree visibility and protection through cutting-edge doorbells and cameras. AWS enables Ring to recognize faces, differentiate between normal and abnormal activities, and identify potential security concerns to keep homes safe and secure.
Search Party
Each year, millions of dogs go missing, leaving families in distress. When a dog owner reports their dog is missing in the Ring app, a "search party" is activated on nearby outdoor cameras. The Ring network uses AI to look for possible matches and notifies Ring camera owners when they spot potential matches in the captured footage.
Ring Video Description
Ring Video Description helps quickly distinguish between urgent and everyday activity with a quick glance at your phone. AI generates text descriptions by detecting and analyzing the motion activity from Ring doorbells and cameras. It can distinguish between normal and unusual activities, giving intelligent, real-time updates on what’s happening.
Alexa+ Greetings
Transforms Ring into a smart doorbell attendant. It merges Ring with the intelligence and knowledge of Alexa+ to help manage deliveries, send away solicitors, and provide specific instructions to visitors.
Familiar Faces
Helps Alexa make informed decisions on how to handle different visitors at the door. For someone enrolled in their family, Alexa can greet them. When Ring detects an unfamiliar face, Alexa can gather information about their purpose while maintaining home security and send customers contextual notifications to help them figure out what to do.
Retinal 4K
Makes Ring cameras one of the best security tools with the help of AI. The upgraded sensors and lenses improve low-light performance, and AI-enabled image processing and understanding make video analysis more precise and accurate. AI also helps configure Ring video capture quality based on installation location, with the new Retinal Tuning feature automatically optimizing video capture settings across a wide range of scenarios.
Built with AWS services
AWS enables Ring to recognize faces, differentiate between normal and abnormal activities, and identify potential security concerns to keep homes safe and secure.
AI integration
Amazon SageMaker AI supports model training for specific use cases like Search Party, while Amazon Bedrock is used for video understanding and search applications to enable easier playback and to identify patterns in data. The pattern recognition helps Ring identify familiar faces in the video feed or distinguish abnormal activity from everyday events.
Scalable infrastructure and performance monitoring
Recording and delivering live video feed to tens of millions of Ring customers requires thousands of compute instances running hundreds of microservices in AWS. Amazon EC2 provides on-demand infrastructure necessary to support Ring’s security devices, Amazon S3 provides scalable video storage, and Amazon Kinesis communication services ensure high uptime and performance. In addition, Amazon CloudWatch monitors critical infrastructure resources, operational health real-time at a global scale, responds rapidly to performance changes, and enables downstream automations to mitigate risks proactively.
