Overview
To support rapid growth in trading activity and an expanding ETF portfolio, CSOP Asset Management (CSOP) needed to modernize the technology foundation underpinning its core trading and business operations while maintaining strict security and regulatory controls. The firm migrated 95 percent of these systems to Amazon Web Services (AWS), establishing a scalable and resilient platform designed for operational efficiency. As a result, CSOP has shortened deployment cycles from months to days, improved agility across teams, and scaled operations with a lean technology organization.
Opportunity
Building a cloud foundation to innovate in Hong Kong’s ETF market
As one of Hong Kong’s leading ETF issuers, CSOP operates in a highly competitive financial market where trading activity continues to grow, and investor expectations are rising.
CSOP’s legacy on-premises infrastructure was increasingly unable to support these demands. It constrained the firm’s ability to process growing volumes of market and trading data, slowed the rollout of new products and services, and made it difficult to adopt advanced analytics and emerging technologies. For a lean technology team, maintaining and scaling this environment also placed increasing operational pressure on internal resources.
At the same time, CSOP saw an opportunity to modernize its technology platform to support faster time to market for new ETF products, improve operational efficiency, and prepare for future innovation in data analytics and AI—while continuing to meet the stringent security and regulatory requirements of the financial services industry.
Melody He, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at CSOP Asset Management, says, “As our ETF business continued to grow, we needed a technology platform that could scale with rising AUM and trading activity while maintaining the high standards of security and regulatory compliance our investors expect.”

Migrating core trading and business systems to AWS
CSOP migrated nearly 95 percent of its core trading and business systems from an on-premises infrastructure to AWS, establishing a secure, scalable, and cloud-native platform designed to support growing trading volumes while meeting regulatory requirements.
Working closely with AWS, CSOP adopted modern architectures and best practices through Immersion Days, architecture workshops, and ongoing collaboration with AWS business development, solutions architecture, and technical account management teams. This engagement helped CSOP design a cloud environment optimized for reliability, compliance, and operational efficiency.
“AWS worked closely with our team through workshops, architecture deep dives, and ongoing engagement, helping us adopt best practices as we modernized our environment, says Ray Leung, senior vice president, tech Architect and innovation at CSOP Asset Management.
Today, CSOP runs its key workloads on Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS), Amazon OpenSearch Service, Amazon Relational Database Service, and Amazon API Gateway, with multi-Availability Zones deployments to strengthen system reliability for mission-critical trading applications. Amazon OpenSearch Service serves as the foundation for CSOP’s centralized logging platform, aggregating logs across applications and environments to support operational monitoring and compliance requirements.
To support the development of its centralized logging platform, CSOP used Kiro, an agentic AI-powered development environment, to accelerate internal platform engineering. CSOP’s technology and operations team used Kiro’s vibe coding mode to rapidly prototype and troubleshoot AWS operations workflows, while using its specification-driven mode to define structured requirements, implementation plans, and documentation for the logging platform.
This approach supported DevOps-aligned development and deployment workflows on AWS, helping CSOP standardize build processes, maintain clear governance, and scale the platform consistently as the environment evolved.
Outcome
Scaling ETF operations with faster releases and higher resilience
By migrating 95 percent of its core systems to AWS, CSOP established a resilient and scalable cloud foundation that supports growing trading volumes while meeting security and regulatory requirements. Since completing the migration, CSOP has achieved 99.99 percent platform availability / uptime for its mission-critical trading workloads.
By combining DevOps practices on AWS with AI-assisted development using Kiro, CSOP significantly shortened deployment cycles by 95 percent, from months to 3 days, enabling teams to release updates more frequently and respond faster to market and business needs. This improved delivery velocity supported a 100 percent increase in CSOP’s ETF product offerings without a proportional increase in operational complexity.
The centralized logging platform built on Amazon OpenSearch Service—developed with support from Kiro—has strengthened observability across CSOP’s AWS environment, supporting faster issue detection, more efficient troubleshooting, and stronger compliance oversight.
“What used to take months can now be done in days. Our teams have much better visibility across systems, which allows us to move faster and operate with greater confidence,” says Leung.
