Modernizing Oracle EBS on AWS with Mood Media
Learn how in-store media solutions company Mood Media migrated Oracle E-Business Suite to AWS.
Overview
As a provider of in-store media solutions, Mood Media serves customers of all sizes, from top retailers and hotels to small businesses. The company has grown significantly since it was founded in 2004, but the legacy provider hosting its Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) was no longer able to keep pace.
To improve availability and performance, Mood Media turned to Amazon Web Services (AWS). With the help of Apps Associates LLC (Apps Associates), an AWS Premier Tier Services Partner, it successfully migrated Oracle EBS, Oracle Business Intelligence, and Oracle APEX to AWS in 6 months.
With enterprise data now hosted in the cloud, Mood Media has unlocked excellent price performance and access to insights, thereby paving the way for future innovation.

Opportunity | Using AWS Services to Host Oracle EBS for Mood Media
Mood Media delivers solutions to elevate the in-store experience, from on-hold music and messaging to digital signage content and scent marketing. For years, it has used a traditional hosting and managed services provider for Oracle EBS.
“Our legacy infrastructure was expensive and limited our ability to operate effectively and efficiently,” says Doug Owens, vice president of global business systems at Mood Media. “We wanted to take advantage of modern cloud infrastructure so that we could save money and improve performance and reliability.”
Having worked with the AWS Partner for 9 years, Mood Media selected Apps Associates to migrate Oracle EBS to AWS. “We guide customers through the entire journey of migrating enterprise applications to AWS,” says Mihir Patel, vice president of cloud architecture at Apps Associates.
Solution | Migrating 11 TB of Enterprise Data to AWS
Apps Associates optimized Mood Media’s enterprise workloads, mapped them onto AWS, and identified ways to run existing Oracle applications. It used Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC), which lets companies define and launch AWS resources in a logically isolated virtual network, to establish a connection with Mood Media’s legacy data center and migrate 11 TB of enterprise data to AWS. Amazon Redshift, which provides outstanding price performance for cloud data warehousing, was chosen as a data lake for enterprise resource planning systems.
“On AWS, Mood Media can run Oracle with excellent price performance, speed, and efficiency,” says Patel. “The company sees great business value and decreased time to market that it couldn’t achieve with legacy infrastructure.”
Previously, Mood Media had multiple outages every quarter; in the 16 months since the migration, it experienced only one 15-minute outage. With its Amazon Redshift data lake, Mood Media has reliable access to enterprise data, which it can use to visualize insights and guide business decisions. The total cost of ownership has also decreased; instead of spending thousands of dollars on a dedicated environment, Mood Media can spin up development and production instances as needed.
Outcome | Delivering Business Value with Enterprise Applications in the Cloud
On AWS, Mood Media can focus on elevating the in-store experience to benefit customers worldwide. “The migration to AWS has been one of the key decisions that Mood Media has made,” says Owens. “The system just works. That frees me up to focus on my real job, which is helping our business unlock the full value of our business applications.”
