UK Ministry of Justice accelerates critical decisions with AWS analytics and machine learning
The UK Ministry of Justice (MoJ) works to protect and advance the principles of justice, with a vision to deliver a world-class justice system, for everyone in society. Its priorities are to protect the public from serious offenders, to reduce reoffending and to deliver swift access to justice. To support these goals, the MoJ turned to Amazon Web Services (AWS) to reduce operational complexity, enhance collaboration within the ministry, and reduce reliance on older monolithic systems.
The heart of the MoJ's data and analytics capabilities is its Analytical Platform, built on AWS. This platform serves over 500 data and analytics professionals on a daily basis. Services like Amazon Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow (Amazon MWAA), Amazon Athena and Amazon S3 power the ingestion and management of large data flows from across the MoJ's diverse data sources, ranging from legacy databases to modern digital microservices.
The ministry has a strong track record of utilising advanced analytics, machine learning, and risk assessment tools to generate critical insights. It is also working with AWS to leverage the potential of AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), experimenting with how these technologies can be used to improve both back-office and frontline operations. This includes exploring the use of Amazon Bedrock, a fully managed service providing secure access to leading foundation models.

The Analytical Platform is used by over 500 people from our data and analytical communities on a daily basis, and it's great that it's built with AWS, because it gives them the power they need, to really give the consistent advice that our ministers, our frontline staff and the public deserve.
