Atlassian Standard Infrastructure on AWS

A highly available VPC for hosting Atlassian Data Center products

This Partner Solution sets up the Atlassian Standard Infrastructure (ASI)—a highly available, virtual private cloud (VPC) that is specifically customized to host Atlassian Data Center products such as Jira, Bitbucket Data Center, and Confluence Data Center on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. ASI contains all of the components required for the deployment and integration of multiple Atlassian Data Center products within the same VPC.

The Partner Solution sets up this foundational stack, which includes the VPC, managed NAT gateways, and a Linux bastion host, and then exports the stack’s output values to expose the foundational components to other stacks. The Partner Solutions for Jira, Bitbucket Data Center, and Confluence Data Center use the exported values to discover these underlying components, so you can easily provision multiple Atlassian products on this infrastructure.

The Jira, Bitbucket Data Center, and Confluence Data Center Partner Solutions require the ASI. You can deploy the ASI either by using this Partner Solution, or by choosing the new ASI option when you deploy an Atlassian product.

This Partner Solution was developed by Atlassian in collaboration with AWS. Atlassian is an AWS Partner.

AWS Service Catalog administrators can add this architecture to their own catalog.  

  •  What you'll build
  • Use this Partner Solution to build out the following AWS infrastructure components, which are required by all Atlassian Data Center products:

    • A highly available architecture that spans two Availability Zones.
    • A VPC configured with public and private subnets according to AWS best practices, to provide you with your own virtual network on AWS. 
    • In the public subnets:
      • A network address translation (NAT) gateway to allow outbound internet access for resources in the private subnets.
      • A bastion host that enables secure access to nodes within your infrastructure without exposing it to the internet (for more information, see Bastion Hosts). You can choose not to provision a bastion host if you prefer to access ASI nodes through the AWS Systems Manager.
  •  How to deploy
  • To build the ASI on AWS, follow the instructions in the deployment guide. The deployment process takes about 20 minutes, and it includes these steps:

    1. Sign in to your AWS account. If you don’t have an AWS account, sign up at
    2. Clone the ASI Partner Solution templates to a custom S3 bucket.
    3. Launch the templates directly from the S3 bucket.

    Important: If you are deploying and integrating multiple Atlassian applications, provision them all within the same ASI.

    Amazon may share user-deployment information with the AWS Partner that collaborated with AWS on this solution.  

  •  Costs and licenses
  • ASI doesn't require a license. For other licensing requirements, refer to JiraBitbucket Data Center, and Confluence Data Center.

    You are responsible for the cost of the AWS services and any third-party licenses used while running this Partner Solution reference deployment. There is no additional cost for using the Partner Solution.

    The AWS CloudFormation template for this Partner Solution includes configuration parameters that you can customize. Some of the settings, such as the instance type, affect the cost of deployment. For cost estimates, refer to the pricing pages for each AWS service you use. Prices are subject to change.

    Tip: After you deploy the Partner Solution, create AWS Cost and Usage Reports to track costs associated with the Partner Solution. These reports deliver billing metrics to an Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) bucket in your account.
