AWS embraces multicloud — here’s what that means for you

If your organization uses more than one cloud provider, you’re not alone. As Gartner noted earlier this year, “multicloud strategy continues to be an operational reality in many enterprise organizations”. Maybe an acquisition brought Azure alongside your AWS footprint. Maybe you chose to adopt different clouds for their unique offerings. Maybe a business unit started using a different cloud provider years ago. However you got here, the result is the same: you’re operating in multiple environments, and the gap between “using multiple clouds” and “operating multicloud well” keeps getting wider. That gap shows up in familiar ways. Your monitoring may be siloed. Security posture may be inconsistent across environments. Provisioning a private connection between clouds could take weeks of VPN configuration or colocation negotiation. And as AI adoption accelerates (bringing even more providers into the mix), these problems compound rather than shrink.

Now helping you across clouds — not just ours

Our multicloud customers tell us they want to work across clouds using simple, interoperable, and portable solutions. Solutions that don’t require them to do custom engineering. To support this ask, we have taken an open-standards based approach, making it easier for customers to connect, observe, operate, and secure their workloads across clouds without vendor lock-in.
We’ve invested in addressing multicloud needs through AWS services and people. Here are three recent examples that we believe you should explore. AWS Interconnect — multicloud went GA in 2026 and enables you to quickly establish private, secure, high-speed network connections between clouds with dedicated bandwidth and built-in resiliency. We published the underlying specification on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 license — an open framework that any cloud or network provider can adopt. AWS Security Hub expanded to support multicloud in 2026 as well. It provides a single, unified experience to detect and respond to risks across your AWS and Azure environments. Security Hub generates all findings in the Open Cybersecurity Schema Framework (OCSF) format, providing a consistent schema across AWS and Azure findings. Finally, if you are looking for guidance on how to build and operate in a multicloud environment, we have expanded the AWS Multicloud Program, to provide you complimentary, cloud-agnostic consultancy — including best practices, strategies and training — goaled on your outcomes, not AWS adoption.

In the 2026 Magic Quadrant for Strategic Cloud Platform Services, Gartner named AWS a Leader for the 16th consecutive year. Leaders execute well against their current vision and are well positioned for tomorrow.
