Today, at the AWS São Paulo Summit, we announced that AWS EdStart, the AWS educational technology (EdTech) startup accelerator that helps startup EdTech companies build teaching and learning solutions on the AWS Cloud, is now available to customers in Brazil. Brazil is the first country in Latin America and second in the Western Hemisphere to offer the AWS EdTech-focused program to customers.

With cyberattacks on the rise against higher education institutions, it is critical to detect vulnerabilities in the Docker images that may run your applications. This involves not just vulnerability scanning of the applications, but of the OS packages installed in a Docker image as well.

From January 24, 2019 – April 22, 2019, AWS Educate hosted the Alexa Skills Challenge for student members in the United States. Students built solutions to address challenges in the academic setting related to student life, learning, and the community. Participants learned and built solutions using a variety of AWS technologies such as machine learning and conversational artificial intelligence. With AWS Educate’s resources and support, participants delivered helpful Alexa Skills. And now (drumroll please), here are the winners of the AWS Educate Alexa Skills Challenge.

2018 saw many natural disasters devastating areas of the United States. To enable disaster response organizations’ access to cloud services at the edge, even in the harshest conditions, we announced the launch of the AWS Disaster Response Program (AWS DRP). he AWS DRP team focuses on building strategic relationships with governments, non-governmental organizations (NGO), nonprofit organizations (NPO), and educational institutions focusing on disaster response. Additionally, the AWS DRP is developing a capability to deploy technical AWS staff during disasters and directly aid disaster-responding organizations in leveraging AWS technology called the AWS Disaster Response Action Team (AWS DRT).

Early in your career it is important to find individuals that you respect and admire to act as mentors. I still have mentors, and I still ask questions. You need to remember that the onus is on you to use your mentor’s time. You need to be prescriptive when it comes to asking for their help. Come to them with specific questions and give them perspective on where you need guidance. Approaching a mentor with a clear understanding of where you need guidance is key to respecting their time and getting the most of yours.
