Healthcare leaders today face unprecedented pressure to balance compliance, innovation, and operational excellence. With new regulatory frameworks such as the European Health Data Space (EHDS), DARWIN EU, and the EU Data, AI and Data Governance Acts (DGA), combined with the rapid rise of generative AI and agentic AI, organizations must rethink how they manage and scale the use of health data. Traditional, fragmented, project-based data management approaches can no longer meet the demand for speed, interoperability, and regulatory transparency across hospitals, ministries, and research networks.

New approach highlighted in whitepaper

The new Amazon Web Services (AWS) whitepaper Health Data Marketplace: Driving Data Strategy in Multi-Cloud Health Systems introduces Health Data Marketplaces as a health data strategy and a fresh architectural approach designed to help healthcare organizations decouple value creation from operational complexity. The Health Data Marketplace concept enables a “search, shop, and serve” experience for datasets, insights, and AI applications—allowing clinicians, researchers, regulators, and life sciences partners to collaborate on trusted data assets across multiple clouds.

Built on multi-cloud data management with centralized governance, this architecture enables compliance, security, and agility while supporting innovation at scale. It provides the foundation for accelerating AI adoption, improving research efficiency, and operationalizing real-world evidence (RWE) in alignment with emerging European and global regulatory frameworks.

Case studies featured in the whitepaper—including a leading European University Hospital and public health agency—illustrate how leading organizations are already implementing the Health Data Marketplace model to accelerate research, improve data provisioning efficiency, and enable secure, compliant cross-border collaboration.

Whitepaper launch at the World Health Summit 2025

AWS will officially launch the whitepaper at the World Health Summit 2025 in Berlin on October 12–14, where global healthcare leaders, regulators, and innovators will gather to shape the future of data-driven healthcare. The summit provides an ideal platform to demonstrate how AWS and its partners are helping health systems transform regulatory pressure and AI disruption into opportunities for innovation, collaboration, and operational excellence.
