Hack the house: Social housing hackathon
Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the Disruptive Innovators Network (DIN) hosted the first competitive social housing hackathon this past May in London. Four UK housing associations – including Great Places, Places for People and Metropolitan Thames Valley – were teamed with members of the AWS Partner Network (APN), and had 36 hours to analyse one of four housing problems and hack a solution.

Enabling impact in Australia and New Zealand at the AWS Public Sector Summit Canberra: Recap
At the AWS Public Sector Summit in Canberra, Australia, more than 1,300 technologists convened to learn about digital transformation through cloud technologies, and were able to get inspired, dive deep, and begin to build. Keynote speakers highlighted the impact AWS can have on the individual, society, security, government, and the economy in the Australia and New Zealand region.

At this year’s AWS IMAGINE Nonprofit Conference, more than 700 attendees from more than 30 countries gathered to discuss the ways technology can help solve our world’s most pressing issues. Over 20 nonprofit speakers took to the stage to share their organizations’ stories and best practices learned on their journeys with AWS. The speakers and their ideas sparked conversations about the art of what’s possible and the AWS use cases for nonprofits.

Busan Metropolitan City signs new agreement with AWS to develop smart city initiatives and foster public sector innovation
The Busan Metropolitan City and Amazon Web Services (AWS) signed a new agreement to address real-world public sector technology challenges at the Busan Cloud Innovation Center (CIC). Built off of a collaboration initiated in March 2016, this new agreement will span the next five years with a focus on smart city initiatives. These initiatives will tackle challenges such as traffic, public security, health and well-being, logistics, and the environment within Busan, South Korea.
IMAGINE: Nonprofits Using Tech for Good
Imagine: hundreds of nonprofit leaders in a room, sharing ideas and learning how to leverage the full power of cloud technology to advance their missions. NOVA brings data science courses to the USMC with AWS Educate
The United States Marine Corps (USMC) and Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) are developing a new course of study in collaboration with AWS Educate focused on “Data Intelligence,” focused on cloud computing, data analytics, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI).
