Hackathon for Good is an AWS Nordic annual event for the social good that challenges hackers to create technological initiatives and solutions to address local and global issues. Developers and Digital Solution Designers across Nordic countries will engage, collaborate, and innovate together to solve specific problems that addressed by charities or non-profit organizations to improve the communities and create a better future for the Nordic countries.

In 2019 AWS works together with Håll Sverige Rent (Keep Sweden Tidy), a well-known Swedish NGO that promotes recycling and combats litter through influencing people's attitudes and behavior in order to encourage a sustainable development. Once a year Håll Sverige Rent organizes the Nordic Coastal Cleanup Day, and in 2019, over 48,000 people were engaged in helping cleaning up the coasts across the Nordics in one day.

What you will do

During the 12-hour hackathon hosted by AWS and Håll Sverige Rent, participants will apply their skills as well as experience to help solve current challenges that Håll Sverige Rent is facing today for hosting Nordic Coast Cleaning Day. You'll be presented with a set of clear challenges that we need your help with.

Who should attend

Hackathon for Good is a 12-hour hackathon made for 100 developers, Digital Solution Designers, or students with coding skills who are eager to create a positive impact on local communities with the power of technology. We welcome you to attend the event from all Nordic & Baltic countries. The event participation is free of charge. 

Your challenges

Challenge 1: Share data for good

Connecting people power with big data can make waves. Find a way which makes it easy for people to pool local beach data across the Nordics.

 

Challenge 2: Code your way to the beach

Beach cleanups are a great way to teach the world about the effects of littering. Find an easy and innovative way to bring together ideas and communities for the next Nordic Coastal Cleanup Day.

 

Challenge 3: Make waves in the community

Our cleanup champions deserve cred. Stir up a viral storm by developing an easier way to visualize and share the results from the Nordic Coastal Cleanup Day.

Participation

  • Who should attend AWS Hackathon for Good?
    Hackathon for Good is a 12-hour hackathon made for 100 developers, Digital Solution Designers, Service Designers, or students with coding skills who are eager to create a positive impact on local communities with the power of technology. We welcome you to attend the event from all Nordic & Baltic countries, however it is recommended that you have some basic knowledge and experience of using AWS Services.
  • Is participating in Hackathon for Good free of charge?
    Yes. Participating in the event is free of charge.

Registration

  • Why am I in a waiting list?
    We place all registrants in waiting list due to the review process on your qualifications and experience. You will get an answer within 3 working days.
  • How do I know if my application is approved or declined?
    You will receive an email from us if you're approved. You'll also get an email if you're declined. Unsure about your status? Contact us at aws-marketing-nordics@amazon.com
  • What's your criteria in qualifying all applications?
    Due to the time limit of the hackathon (12 hours), we need to prioritize applicants who have coding skills that can produce prototype of a possible solution to the challenges.
  • Can I sign-up as a team?

    Yes, you may signup as a team of 5 hackers. Please register each of you as individuals, and let us know which 5 of them should be in a team.

  • What is your cancellation policy?
    You may cancel your attendance 1 week before the event by clicking in the link in your confirmation email or contacting us here: aws-marketing-nordics@amazon.com Note, we will go ahead and cancel your ticket, but we will not confirm your cancellation by email.
