Amazon EC2 M8a instances
New general-purpose instances powered by 5th Generation AMD EPYC processors
Why Amazon EC2 M8a instances?
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) M8a instances are next generation general purpose instances powered by 5th Gen AMD EPYC processors, with a maximum frequency of 4.5 GHz. They deliver 30% better performance than M7a instances, with even higher gains for some workloads.
M8a instances are ideal for applications that benefit from high performance and high throughput such as gaming, financial applications, ML inferencing, video encoding, application servers, simulation modeling, mid-size data stores, application development environments, and caching fleets.
Benefits
Accelerate performance
Delivers up to 30% higher compute performance compared to previous generation instances, powered by AMD EPYC processors with a maximum frequency of 4.5 GHz. M8a instances are up to 60% faster for GroovyJVM workloads and up to 39% faster for Cassandra databases compared to M7a. This means faster processing for your high-performance databases, transaction systems, and media encoding tasks.
Reduce costs
The M8a instances offer up to 19% better price-performance compared to previous generation AMD-based instances. This improved efficiency helps optimize your operational costs through flexible purchasing options including Savings Plans, On-Demand, and Spot instances, delivering better value for your cloud investment.
Scale with flexibility
Provides extensive configuration options with ten virtualized sizes (from 1 to 192 vCPUs) and two bare metal variants. This flexibility extends to Instance Bandwidth Configuration feature, allowing you to boost network or EBS bandwidth by 25% to match your specific workload requirements and optimize application performance.
Features
Powered by 5th Generation AMD EPYC instances
Leverage 5th Generation AMD EPYC processors (formerly code named "Turin") with a maximum frequency of 4.5 GHz. Each vCPU on a M8a instance is a physical CPU core. This means there is no Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT). Experience enhanced security with always-on memory encryption using AMD Secure Memory Encryption (SME), now supporting AES-256 encryption for even stronger data protection.
High-performance interface
Utilize DDR5 memory, delivering 45% higher memory bandwidth compared to M7a instances. Benefit from 50% increase in network throughput of up to 75 Gbps and EBS bandwidth of up to 60 Gbps. Attach up to 128 EBS volumes per instance for extensive storage scalability.
Supports diverse workloads
M8a instances are SAP certified. Take advantage of expanded instruction set support, including AVX-512, VNNI, and bfloat16. These capabilities enable efficient execution of a wider range of workloads, from advanced machine learning algorithms and financial modeling to high-performance video processing and scientific simulations.
Built on AWS Nitro System
The AWS Nitro System is the foundation of our EC2 instances, enabling AWS to innovate faster, further reduce cost for our customers, and deliver added benefits like increased security and new instance types. These instances are built using the latest sixth generation AWS Nitro Cards, which offload and accelerate I/O for functions, increasing overall system performance.
