The UK government‘s recent shift to Cloud Native has inspired new emphasis on adapting workflows to take full advantage of the cloud. To support public sector organisations in this initiative, we bring you the AWS Transformation Day – Public Sector, London.

Join hundreds of attendees from across local and central government, defence and national security, education, healthcare, and NGOs for an action-packed day centered on helping the public sector achieve more with the cloud. Whether your focus is business or technical, let AWS guide you along your digital transformation journey.

A keynote address will be delivered by Teresa Carlson, Vice President of the Worldwide Public Sector at Amazon Web Services, who will discuss our culture of innovation and how it translates into a competitive advantage for our customers. Additionally, you will hear from public sector customers who will outline how they’ve transformed their organisations with the cloud.

Cloud Native, Cloud First and Hybrid: How Different Organizations are Approaching Cloud Adoption

The advent of highly scalable, easy-to-deploy technology is transforming both private and public entities – but it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach. Each organization has its own cloud journey to share. Some start with pilot projects, while others jump into mission-critical programs. Adopting the cloud doesn’t mean starting over – it’s about enhancing your existing infrastructure. In this session, learn firsthand from MTCnovo and United Kingdom Data Archive (UKDA) share on how they are using the cloud to build on their existing technologies and learning valuable lessons along the way.

Speaker:

Nathan Cunningham, Associate Director, Big Data, UK Data Archive
Simone Hume, Business Development Manager, Amazon Web Services
Chris Martin, CTO, MTCnovo
Jonathan Snowball, CIO, MTCnovo

Cloud Economics: How to Quantify the Benefits of Moving to the Cloud

Most likely, your organization is not in the business of running data centers, yet a significant amount of time and money is spent doing just that. Amazon Web Services provides a way to acquire and use infrastructure on-demand, so that you pay only for what you consume. This puts more money back into the business, so that you can innovate more, expand faster, and be better positioned to take advantage of new opportunities.

Speaker:

Matt Johnson, Solutions Architect, Amazon Web Services

The People Model & Cloud Transformation

A successful cloud-transformation journey incorporates three pillars: people, process, and technology. Far too often, organizations focus on process improvements and technology implementation, but ignore the human aspect. Many leaders acknowledge that the first two are easy to modify, while influencing culture is more difficult. This session covers best-practice methods meant to empower customers to address this challenge. Learn about roles and responsibilities germane to the transition and post-cloud adoption phase. Assess your organization’s gaps among the requisite skills and competencies. Build effective training models. And shape an effective DevOps culture.

Speaker:

Thomas Blood, Enterprise Evangelist, Amazon Web Services

Digital Transformation

Governments around the world are taking advantage of the cloud to reduce cost and transform the way they deliver on their mission. The expectations of an increasingly digital citizenry are high, yet all levels of government face budgetary and human resource constraints. Cloud computing – on-demand delivery of IT resources via the Internet with pay-as-you-go pricing – can help agencies increase innovation, agility, and resiliency, all in a cost-efficient manner. This session explores the transformative impact of cloud computing and highlights practical strategies being deployed by governments worldwide.

Speaker:
Chris Hayman, Head of UK & IR, Amazon Web Services

Security Best Practices

This session showcases best practices for operating securely at scale on AWS. We’ll introduce the AWS Security Best Practices whitepaper that covers a range of security recommendations for identity and access management, logging and monitoring, infrastructure security, and data protection. We’ll also examine practical examples found in the Center for Internet Security’s CIS AWS Foundations and CIS AWS Three-Tier Web Architecture benchmarks. Come learn how to "Just Turn It On!"

Speaker:

Angus McAllister, Solutions Architect, Amazon Web Services

The Power of Big Data

Sit in on this session for an in-depth look at the current state of big data at AWS. Learn about the latest big data trends and industry use cases. We’ll focus on how other organizations are using the AWS big data platform to innovate and remain competitive. Met Office also joins us to offer an inside look on how they are using AWS to enable citizens, business, and governments to consume its data on demand.

Speaker:
Ben Snively, Principal Solutions Architect, Amazon Web Services
Jacob Tomlinson, Lead Engineer, Met Office Informatics Lab

Analytics on AWS with Amazon Redshift, Amazon Quick Sight, and Amazon Machine Learning
AWS has a large and growing portfolio of big data management and analytics services, designed to be integrated into solution architectures that meet the needs of your business. In this session, we look at analytics through the eyes of a business intelligence analyst, a data scientist, and an application developer, and we explore how to quickly leverage Amazon Redshift, Amazon QuickSight, RStudio, and Amazon Machine Learning to create powerful, yet straightforward, business solutions.

Speaker:
Paul Armstrong, Solutions Architect, Amazon Web Services

Delivering DevOps on AWS

Software release cycles are now measured in days, rather than months. Cutting-edge companies continually deliver high-quality software at a fast pace to remain competitive. In this session, we cover how you can begin your DevOps journey by sharing best practices and tools used by Amazon’s two pizza engineering teams. We’ll showcase how you can accelerate developer productivity by implementing continuous integration and delivery workflows. We’ll also provide an introduction to AWS CodeStar, AWS CodeCommit, AWS CodeBuild, AWS CodePipeline, and AWS CodeDeploy – the services inspired by Amazon's internal developer tools and DevOps practice.

Mario Vlachakis, Solutions Architect, Amazon Web Services
