The AWS Asia Pacific (Melbourne) Region consists of three Availability Zones and is our second AWS Region in Australia, joining the AWS Asia Pacific (Sydney) Region which launched in 2012.
This second AWS Region in Australia will provide customers with even more options to run workloads with higher performance, greater flexibility and availability, securely store data in Australia, and serve end users with even lower latency. AWS is committed to economic development in Australia by investing in infrastructure, jobs and education in the local Victorian community.

New report: The economic impact of the new AWS Region in Melbourne, Australia
AWS released an Economic Impact Study that details how the Asia Pacific (Melbourne) Region will support the economy in Victoria, Australia. The study outlines plans to invest A$6.8 billion in the AWS Asia Pacific (Melbourne) Region from 2022-2037, estimated to support an annual average of over 2,500 full-time equivalent jobs at external businesses, and add A$15.9 billion to the Australian gross domestic product by 2037.
