Benefits of AWS Region

The new AWS Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Region will offer customers a secure cloud infrastructure that's trusted by millions of customers, including the most security-sensitive organisations like government, healthcare, and financial services. AWS prioritises security at every level, from data centres to network architecture, with built-in safeguards across silicon, virtualisation, and service layers. AWS delivers the most reliable cloud for building and running highly available applications running anywhere – in the cloud, on-premises, or at the edge. AWS offers comprehensive resilience capabilities and guidance that make it easy to build with best practices, and proven operational expertise that is trusted by organisations across industries to run their mission-critical workloads. Each AWS Region including the AWS Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Region consists of a minimum of three, isolated, and physically separate Availability Zones (AZs) within a geographic area. These AZs are located far enough apart from each other to reduce the risk of a single event impacting availability, yet near enough for business continuity applications that require synchronous replication, rapid failover, and low latency.

The AWS Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Region will enable organisations to benefit from the breadth and depth of capabilities offered by AWS to build differentiated products and features. AWS is continually accelerating its pace of innovation to invent entirely new technologies customers can use to transform their businesses. AWS delivers custom-built chips and processors to give customers better price performance for their applications. To help customers reimagine their applications with generative AI, AWS delivers the most comprehensive set of capabilities at every layer of the stack including a choice of cutting-edge large language models for implementing generative AI with Amazon Bedrock. AWS offers the widest variety of compute instances, storage classes, databases, and analytics, all purpose-built to deliver the best cost and performance.

AWS can empower businesses and organisations of all sizes across all industries to build and run fast, responsive, and highly scalable applications that deliver differentiated customer experiences and unparalleled performance. AWS global infrastructure enables customers to deliver latency as low as single-digit milliseconds to end-users and devices, providing the best performance for latency-sensitive applications such as hi-tech manufacturing automation, high-frequency trading, online gaming, and AI/ML inference at the edge for real-time decision making.

AWS is committed to supporting New Zealand’s sustainability goals with efficient and responsible operations of its data centres in the country. AWS Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Region will be powered by 100% renewable energy at launch, resulting from the collaboration of AWS with Mercury NZ on a long-term corporate power purchase agreement for the Turitea South wind farm. Globally, Amazon has already met its 100% renewable energy goal seven years ahead of schedule in 2023. AWS also pledged to be “water positive” by 2030—returning more water to communities than our data centres use
