AWS Server Migration Service (SMS) now offers multi-server migration support that makes it easier and more cost effective to migrate applications from on-premises datacenters to Amazon EC2. You can migrate a group of servers as a single unit without having to go through the hassle of coordinating the replication of individual servers or decoupling application dependencies. With multi-server support, Server Migration Service significantly reduces the time to migrate applications and lessens the risk of errors in the migration process.
AWS Server Migration Service is an agentless service which makes it easier and faster for you to migrate on-premises workloads to AWS from VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V environments. It allows you to automate, schedule, and track incremental replications of live server volumes, making it easier to coordinate large-scale server migrations. With multi-server support, you can first group servers into application groups (e.g. group formed by web front ends, application servers, and database servers). Server Migration Service then takes care of replicating all the servers within the application in a consistent and synchronized manner and auto-generates a CloudFormation Template, which can be used at any time to launch the replicated application in EC2.
Multi-server support is currently available in US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), and EU (Ireland), with support for more regions coming soon. All capabilities of Server Migration Service are offered free of cost. Customers only pay for the resources they use such as EBS and EC2.
