AWS Storage Gateway supports IBM Spectrum Protect on Linux, and 5 TiB tapes

Posted on: Sep 10, 2019

Tape Gateway, a member of the AWS Storage Gateway service family, now supports IBM Spectrum Protect (Tivoli Storage Manager) version 7.1.9 running on Linux. Tape Gateway also increases the maximum supported virtual tape size from 2.5 TiB to 5 TiB to help you store more data on a single tape and ease tape management.

Tape Gateway provides you a simple lift-and-shift of existing physical tape-based workflows to virtual tapes in AWS. You connect your existing backup application to a Tape Gateway deployed as a virtual or hardware appliance on your premises. Tape Gateway compresses, encrypts, and moves your tapes to a virtual tape library in Amazon S3. You can archive your tapes from S3 to S3 Glacier or S3 Glacier Deep Archive. You can retrieve a tape archived in S3 Glacier and S3 Glacier Deep Archive to S3, typically within three-to-five hours and twelve hours, respectively.

Additionally, Tape Gateway is compatible with Spectrum Protect version 7.1.9 running on Microsoft Windows. With this announcement, Tape Gateway supports most major backup applications giving you the ability to backup or archive data to AWS without changing your existing backup workflows.

Tape Gateway is available in 19 AWS regions, including GovCloud (US-West) and China (Beijing). For more information, visit the Testing Your Gateway Setup documentation, or see step-by-step instructions to get started in the AWS Storage Gateway User Guide.
