Nintendo Modernizes IT Infrastructure to Enhance Global User Experience and Support Growth
Nintendo, a global leader in gaming with iconic titles like Splatoon 3 and Super Smash Bros.TM Ultimate has a vision to deliver seamless and scalable services to its global user base.
Overview
In 2015, Nintendo Account, an essential service for customers to purchase and access Nintendo suite of online games was launched. While it expanded quickly into a large-scale service with more than 290 million users in 164 countries by 2022, it also faced problems such as unpredictable traffic spikes and increased operational processes.
As part of its system overhaul, Nintendo chose to modernize its IT infrastructure using Amazon Web Services (AWS). Over a 27-month period, Nintendo migrated from an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud-based (Amazon EC2) infrastructure to AWS managed services, including AWS Fargate and Amazon Aurora on Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS), enabling greater scalability and reliability while addressing operational complexities. This migration also supported the company’s goal of sustaining uninterrupted global service while continuing feature development.
By using AWS, Nintendo transformed its infrastructure to handle increased traffic and improve system performance, enabling streamlined operations and ongoing innovation. These advancements have ensured stability, supported growth, and enhanced the user experience for Nintendo customers.
