Overview
Human resource (HR) platform provider Omni HR (Omni) is rapidly expanding across Asia-Pacific, focusing on feature development. To support this growth, Omni simplified scaling and security by migrating its human resource information system platform to Amazon Web Services (AWS).
On AWS, Omni decreased administration time by 40–50 percent and reduced IT costs by 25–30 percent. With its modernized infrastructure, the company now onboards new customers 50 percent faster. Omni reinvested freed resources into innovation, including developing a white-label version of its platform for select customers.

Omni HR (Omni) provides a holistic human resource information system (HRIS) platform designed for medium-sized companies. Its platform functions as an HR operating system, managing, storing, and processing data for the entire employee lifecycle—including payroll management, recruitment, performance reviews, reporting, and more. One of Omni’s strengths is its flexible workflows and seamless integrations with third-party systems, helping customers to automate their HR admin processes and focus their time on strategic initiatives. The company has charted a plan to expand regionally across Asia-Pacific. Omni notes that the region’s HRIS technology market is still maturing, with limited options for modern, all-in-one solutions.
Given these expansion plans, ensuring the security of the Omni platform is essential. Customers require assurance of data safety and compliance with regulations like ISO 27001, SOC 2 and the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) before onboarding. To meet these standards, Omni developed in-house solutions that apply security measures like scanning files for viruses. Prior to migrating to AWS, the IT security team needed to provide compliance proof manually, due to the legacy platform’s lack of integration with commonly used auditing tools. “Demonstrating security and compliance increased manual work and delayed the onboarding process,” says Ganesh Rajagopal, head of engineering at Omni HR. The company also faced demands in scaling and establishing fallback mechanisms for business continuity. “We were dedicating too much time and too many resources to building and maintaining the cloud infrastructure behind our platform,” Rajagopal explains. “This slowed our operational efficiency and product development.”

Solution | Building a Secure, Scalable, and Future-Ready Cloud Infrastructure
Omni migrated the infrastructure behind its HRIS platform to AWS, simplifying security, compliance, and scalability. “AWS offered robust security features for managing sensitive HR data while reducing infrastructure demands,” says Rajagopal. “We also saw the benefit of the trusted reputation of AWS, which is widely recognized among businesses.” To guide the migration and ensure best practices in AWS environments, Omni worked with AWS Partner eCloudValley. Rajagopal recalls, “eCloudValley played a vital role in building our AWS infrastructure, using infrastructure-as-code to enhance management speed, efficiency, and consistency.”
Omni utilizes microservices for its applications, with AWS Fargate managing server resources and scaling. Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) provides scalable storage, while Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) for PostgreSQL manages the databases. For security, Omni implemented Amazon GuardDuty, which combines machine learning and threat intelligence to protect AWS workloads. The company also deployed Amazon CloudWatch for application monitoring and AWS CloudTrail to track user activity and API usage. To streamline compliance and security workflows, Omni uses Vanta, a software solution available on AWS Marketplace. Rajagopal notes, “By migrating to AWS, we are now fully equipped for the future with a platform infrastructure that enables faster customer onboarding and greater agility to accelerate service development.”
Outcome | Strengthening Security, Streamlining Operations, and Scaling for Growth
Migrating to AWS has strengthened Omni’s data and platform security, making it both robust and easier to maintain. Amazon GuardDuty Malware Protection for Amazon S3 automatically scans uploaded files for viruses, while the platform’s integration with widely used auditing tools and full compliance with SOC 2, GDPR, and other global regulations streamlines security. “Since the move to AWS, we no longer need to manually prove compliance to customer security teams, and we’ve reduced customer onboarding time by 50 percent,” says Rajagopal.
Beyond security improvements, Omni has reduced the need for IT personnel to manage its cloud infrastructure. With the built-in scalability of AWS and managed services like Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, much of the previous workload has been eliminated. “We’ve cut management time by 40–50 percent by migrating to AWS,” Rajagopal estimates. “The time we save on AWS gives us the chance to be more aggressive in product development.” For example, Omni has introduced enhanced modules for its customers, including multi-country payroll, multiple language offerings, employer-of-record services, workflow automations, and integrations with office productivity suites.
The transition to AWS has also helped Omni reduce its cloud infrastructure costs by 25–30 percent, with AWS billing and cost management helping identify inefficiencies and optimize usage. The company is reinvesting these savings to drive expansion across Asia-Pacific. “Utilizing the global infrastructure footprint of AWS allows us to deliver outstanding HRIS services across Asia and beyond,” says Rajagopal, adding that AWS is also helping Omni attract software engineers to support growth. “The demand for engineering talent is high, and startups face challenges in securing it. We believe that offering opportunities to develop AWS skills makes us more attractive to engineers.”
