The lack of real-time water usage information for the Moulton Niguel Water District challenges water-waste monitoring and inefficient water-use tracking. Leaks can go undetected for days or months, while excessive outdoor watering or system failures might go unnoticed for even longer. A well-managed hourly usage database allows for immediate, actionable identification of these issues. The district recently installed Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) for 4,500 of its customers. This system provides hourly customer consumption data that is rapidly outgrowing the district’s previous data stores. By using AWS to store, manage, and analyze this data with R and Python programs, the District’s AMI analytics solution provides a common platform for exploration and visualization of hourly water consumption patterns for more efficient water management.

First responders are always at risk of task saturation when making split-second life-or-death decisions. Manually-operated body cameras and in-car video systems depend upon an officer remembering to turn them on. However, studies showed that officers failed to start video recording on manual body cameras 3 out of 5 times when policy stated video should have been recorded. Utility’s BodyWorn and In-Car Video systems integrate audio, video, and tactile AI to automate video recording policy rules. Gunshot audio recognition automatically triggers recording and smart saves pre-event audio and video whenever a gunshot happens close to an officer. Smart Holsters automatically start recording when a weapon has been pulled. In-Car Video AI automatically captures license plate numbers to support immediate analysis.
