Eye surgeons need the proper instruments, components, and materials to perform customized surgeries for their patients, and the timely and accurate delivery of these items is essential. At Alcon, a global leader in eye care, sales representatives configure and order surgical procedure packs on behalf of eye care professionals. Those professionals, who serve patients in more than 140 countries, require packs that meet the specific needs of each practice, surgeon, and case. The legacy application that managed the process of matching packs to professionals was slow and added complex steps to the creation and ordering workflows.
Alcon turned to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and redesigned the Custom Pak Designer application using a microservices-based, serverless approach. With a dynamic, scalable, web-based application, the company has improved operational efficiency while supporting new business opportunities.
