Optimizing Enterprise Migrations to AWS: Capgemini Cloud Choice

In late February, Premier APN Consulting Partner Capgemini announced the launch of Capgemini Cloud Choice with Amazon Web Services (AWS), an expanded cloud services collaboration between our two companies. Cloud Choice with AWS is intended to help enterprise customers make the right business decisions as they optimize workload migrations and deployments on AWS. Today, we’d like to tell you a little bit about Capgemini and their decision to invest in Cloud Choice with AWS.

Who is Capgemini?

Capgemini has worked with AWS since 2008, and has been a Premier APN Consulting Partner since 2013. Capgemini is one of the world’s foremost providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services, which includes end-to-end, enterprise-grade cloud services, that combine its deep industry and technical expertise with AWS products to bring truly differentiating solutions for customers. These services support clients from the start at the first engagement and span the entire cloud lifecycle.

Why AWS and APN?

The Capgemini team believes that the combination of the company’s deep sector experience, technical knowledge, and strong customer relationships at the business level combined with best-of-breed cloud technology from AWS, sets Cloud Choice with AWS apart in the market. “By leveraging AWS, Capgemini can give enterprises the assurance that they’ll gain maximum benefits from the public cloud. With AWS, new, increasingly business-critical cloud offerings can be rapidly deployed, giving enterprise customers worldwide faster and more flexible access to cloud services,” says Nico Steenkamp, global partner director at Capgemini.

A few years after the company began working with AWS, it joined the AWS Partner Network (APN). Today, Capgemini is an active member of the APN. The company is a Premier APN Consulting Partner, AWS Managed Service Partner, AWS Channel Reseller, AWS Test Drive Partner, and holds the AWS SAP Competency. The team has utilized APN resources to build its cloud-based business and has found success in working with the APN. “The increasing support we’ve gotten from AWS as a result of joining the APN program has enabled us to better serve our enterprise customers, thanks to training and architecting support,” says Steenkamp. “And thanks to our status as an AWS Premier Consulting Partner, we receive considerable additional support for training, marketing, and proofs of concept (POCs) for our clients.”

As the company looked to deepen its relationship with AWS and further enable enterprise customers moving to the cloud, the team took a look at where they wanted to invest to ensure long-term success for its customers. Enter Cloud Choice with AWS.

What is Cloud Choice with AWS?

Capgemini Cloud Choice with AWS leverages AWS to empower business. Says Steenkamp, “We help our clients get value from deploying onto the AWS cloud in a number of ways, through managed business services, insights and analytics services, and migration.

“Cloud Choice with AWS is a complete portfolio of services for the enterprise that delivers a cloud-first way of working. It encompasses advisory services, application portfolio assessment, migration, provisioning, and orchestration,” Steenkamp continues. “It helps customers understand how best to automate their cloud services, minimizing the complexity of their cloud transformation, and comprises of three key services: 1) advise, 2) align, and 3) animate:

  • Advise: we develop a strategy to strengthen performance using the AWS Cloud and adapt the business to new ways of working;
  • Align: we transform the applications portfolio by assessing the applications, migrating them to the cloud, or building new cloud-native applications
  • Animate: we allocate workloads to public, private or hybrid cloud infrastructure, safely and in a controlled manner.”

Cloud Choice with AWS encompasses a migration factory that leverages the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework and is dedicated to supporting the migration of enterprise applications around the globe to AWS. To support this initiative, the Capgemini team has also invested heavily in upskilling its people around the world. The company’s goal is to have at least an additional 1,000 professionals trained in AWS by the end of 2016, which includes 400 specialists in the migration factory.
