AWS Week in Review – April 6, 2015

Let’s take a quick look at what happened in AWS-land last week:

Monday, April 6	We announced an AWS Config Update, with More Regions, Friendly Notifications, and Partner Support. We announced that MapR Distribution Release 4.0.2 is Now Supported in Amazon EMR. We announced AWS Storage Gateway Support for Symantec Backup Exec 15. We announced New Competencies for Healthcare and Digital Media (also covered on the AWS Partner Network Blog: Introducing the APN Healthcare Competency and Introducing the APN Digital Media Competency). The Gathering Clouds Blog explained How to Encrypt Data at Rest in HIPAA Compliant Cloud Hosting.
Tuesday, April 7	We launched New AWS Training Courses for Business Decision Makers and DevOps Engineers. We announced Deactivate/Activate and Enhanced Editing for AWS Data Pipeline. We announced that AWS Elastic Beanstalk now Supports Amazon Linux AMI 2015.03. The AWS Ruby Development Blog talked about Polling Messages from an Amazon SQS Queue. A post on the AWS Mobile Development Blog Introduced the AWS Mobile SDK for iOS 2.1.x, with Split Frameworks. the AWS Security Blog announced a New Whitepaper – Single Sign-On: Integrating AWS, OpenLDAP, and Shibboleth. The RightScale Blog announced some New RightScale Features: Manage Existing Instances, Orchestrate Any AWS Service, and More.
Wednesday, April 8	A post on the AWS Big Data Blog showed you how to Automatically Deploy from Amazon S3 Using AWS CodeDeploy. We announced that you can now Search and Sort your Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) by Creation Date. We announced that AWS CloudFormation Supports Lambda-Backed Custom Resources. The Amazon Simple Email Service Blog shared news of the SES Limit Increase Form Consolidation. Matthew D. Fuller talked about More Graceful Deployments with CodeDeploy. The 2nd Watch Blog described Cloud-Enabled Innovation for Digital Business. The Cloud Academy Blog listed AWS Costs: The 5 Most Common Mistakes.
Thursday, April 9	We announced Amazon Elastic File System, Shared File Storage for Amazon EC2. We announced Amazon Machine Learning, for Data-Driven Decisions at Scale. We announced the New Amazon WorkSpaces Application Manager. We updated the EC2 Container Service, with Support for Long-Running Applications, Load Balancing, and More (the AWS Compute Blog also announced that Amazon EC2 Container Service is now Generally Available). We announced that AWS Lambda is in Full Production, with New Features for Mobile Devs. A post on the Soomla Community Blog talked about Installing Redis Master-Slave on Amazon EC2. A post on the AWS Big Data Blog shared Nasdaq’s Architecture using Amazon EMR and Amazon S3 for Ad Hoc Access to a Massive Data Set. The AWS Ruby Development Blog showed you how to Verify Amazon SNS Message Authenticity. A post on the Druva Blog explained that No, It’s Not Just You: Enterprise Security Really is Hard (this is a review of a presentation from the AWS Summit in San Francisco). A trio of posts on the AWS Mobile Development Blog Introduced Amazon Cognito Events as Sync Triggers, and then talked about Invoking AWS Lambda Functions via Amazon SNS and Building a Mobile Backend Using AWS Lambda. The AWS Partner Network Blog announced the Newest All-in Technology Partners on AWS (MicroStrategy, Onshape, Software AG, and TIBCO). The Cloud Academy Blog discussed Data Theft and AWS Deployments.
Friday, April 10	We published the AWS San Francisco Summit presentations to SlideShare. The AWS Partner Network Blog offered a Perspective on Amazon Machine Learning and Amazon Elastic File System for APN Partners. The FlyData Blog posted a Quick Review of Amazon Machine Learning Using Amazon Redshift as a Data Source.
