AWS Week in Review – November 10, 2014

Let’s take a quick look at what happened in AWS-land last week. I have augmented selected items with links to their re:Invent presentations.

Monday, November 10	We announced CloudTrail Integration With CloudWatch Logs. We updated Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL with Read Replicas, 9.3.5 Support, Migration, and Three New Extensions. We announced a new AWS Direct Connect Location in Las Vegas. We announced a Sneak Preview of DynamoDB Streams. The AWS Startup Collection published a story on Mainframe 2: How the Cloud Became Virtual – With GPU instances soon to go live on AWS, we had a shot at putting Mainframe2 in front of tens of thousands of customers. The AWS Big Data Blog published Dispatches from re:Invent – Day 1. The RightScale Blog talked about RightScale at re:Invent: How to Manage AWS, VMware, and Hybrid Cloud.
Tuesday, November 11	We launched AWS Test Drive 3.0. The ElasticBox Blog announced Cloud Reports – A Simple and Easy Way to Track and Optimize Your Cloud Spend. The Amazon Mobile App Distribution Blog announced that Amazon CloudDrive is now Accessible via a REST-Based API. The AWS Big Data Blog published Dispatches from re:Invent – Day 2.
Wednesday, November 12	We announced Amazon Aurora, a New Cost-Effective MySQL-Compatible Database Engine for Amazon RDS (presentation: Amazon Aurora: Amazon’s New Relational Database Engine). We announced New AWS Tools for Code Management and Deployment. We announced the New AWS Key Management Service (presentation: Building Secure Applications with AWS Key Management Service). We announced that you can now Track AWS Resource Configurations with AWS Config (presentation: Get Deep Visibility into Resource Configurations). We announced the upcoming launch of AWS Service Catalog. The AWS Big Data Blog published Dispatches from re:Invent – Day 3.
Thursday, November 13	We announced AWS Lambda so you can Run Code in the Cloud. We announced Amazon EC2 Container Service, Container Management for the AWS Cloud. We announced that we will soon be supporting Larger and Faster EBS Volumes. We advised you to get ready for New Compute-Optimized EC2 Instances. We unveiled New Event Notifications for Amazon S3. The AWS Big Data Blog published Dispatches from re:Invent – Day 4.
Friday, November 14	The Amazon Simple Email Service Blog talked about SES and Haskell.
