Desktop and Application Streaming

AWS EUC @re:Invent: Getting Started with Amazon WorkSpaces

At re:Invent 2022, we are hosting a hands-on workshop EUC 306: Getting started with Amazon WorkSpaces. In this workshop, you learn how to deploy cloud desktops using Amazon WorkSpaces.

Amazon WorkSpaces is a secure, fully managed, fully persistent desktop computing service. With Amazon WorkSpaces, you can quickly provision cloud-based Windows and Linux virtual desktops. With WorkSpaces, you provide access to the documents, applications, and resources users need; wherever they are. The WorkSpaces client is supported on a range of devices. This means users can securely access their resources and on the device of their choice.  As a managed service, you don’t have to worry about procuring and maintaining your own complex infrastructure and management stack. You can select from a curated list of low-cost, pay-as-you-go desktop instances. This makes sure you provide your users with the right amount of resources to meet their requirements. Users can change if their needs change. For example – say they need more – or less – CPU and memory they can self-serve, or you can automate the process for them.

This is a hands-on workshop. Do bring your laptop in order to participate! This session is intended for end user computer administrators, IT professionals, or technical managers. No prior AWS experience is required. You don’t even need an AWS account! We provision AWS accounts for the duration of the workshop. If you’ve not used WorkSpaces before, this workshop is a great introduction.  Or, if you need a refresher to understand better the most recent updates, this workshop should be on your session list. Come all, to have a chance to experiment, and ask questions.

Attendees work directly on the AWS Management Console within the first 20 minutes of the workshop. I will help you dive deep in to the WorkSpaces service. I’ll cover use cases, pricing, and making choices for streaming protocols. During the workshop you get to experience interacting with the service as both an administrator, and an end user. There are going to be several WorkSpaces experts during the workshop to help facilitate. There’ll be present to answer questions, and work with you one-on-one as needed.

This workshop is Monday, November 28 at 1:45PM in the MGM Grand. This session will not be recorded. Do add the session to your schedule. If you can’t attend re:Invent, try the self-paced Getting Started with Amazon WorkSpaces workshop in your own AWS account.

I look forward to seeing you there and help you get started with the latest Amazon WorkSpaces.
