Today, we are announcing Engineering Development Hub (EDH), a unified, cloud-based engineering workbench that brings together the applications, compute, and data you need to design, test, and validate complex systems—all in a single, open source environment.

What Engineering Development Hub does for you

EDH is part of the Digital Engineering Framework (DEF), a single toolset built to manage engineering resources and product data from any source for next-generation product development, with built-in AI capabilities and enterprise-grade security.

EDH consolidates the disconnected steps of a typical engineering workflow into one managed experience. Instead of switching between a local CAD workstation, a separate simulation environment, and a shared file server, you access all your tools side by side through a single interface.

EDH offers the following key features:

  • Unified ISV tool access – EDH integrates with leading independent software vendor (ISV) applications for CAD, CAE, EDA, and embedded software development. You launch the tools you need from one workspace, with license management handled for you, reducing environment provisioning time from days to minutes.
  • Managed, auto-scaled compute – When you submit a simulation job, EDH automatically provisions the right Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances—including GPU-accelerated and high-memory configurations—and scales them back down when the job is complete. You pay only for the compute you use, without managing infrastructure.
  • Built-in engineering assistant – EDH includes an engineering assistant application powered by Amazon Bedrock that brings generative AI directly into your workflow. For example, you can ask the assistant to analyze thermal simulation results across 50 design variants and surface the three configurations that meet both weight and heat dissipation targets—a task that previously required hours of manual comparison.

Consider a robotics OEM developing a new robotic arm. Before EDH, the mechanical engineer designs the arm in a CAD tool on a local workstation, exports the model, uploads it to a shared drive, then opens a separate simulation tool on a remote desktop. They wait for compute allocation, run a stress simulation, and manually transfer results back for the design review.

With EDH, the same engineer opens their CAD and simulation tools side by side in a single session. They run the stress simulation on automatically scaled compute, ask the AI assistant to compare results against the previous design iteration, and share a validated model with the embedded software team—all from one environment, without a single file transfer.
