Join us for AWS Pi Week to celebrate 15 years of Amazon S3 and AWS

UPDATE MARCH 14, 2021:

HAPPY 15th BIRTHDAY AMAZON S3! To kick off the AWS Pi Week celebration, please revel in some “Pi” with Jon Myer as he previews the week ahead:

The AWS Storage Blog launched on March 25, 2019, but the AWS Storage story started far before then on March 14, 2006, the day Amazon S3 became generally available. 15 years later, the technological landscape looks immensely different than it did when S3 became the first generally available service offered by AWS. Back then, you couldn’t like or share something on social media, you couldn’t order a meal through an application, and if you wanted to watch something, you had better find a television set. Data continues to be at the forefront of the technological innovation, change, and progress that we have all witnessed over the last decade and a half, and data storage continues to grow rapidly. More and more customers are storing their rapidly growing data stores on Amazon S3, which offers virtually unlimited scalability, and unmatched availability, durability, security, and performance. Customers of all sizes and industries can use S3 to store and protect any amount of data for a range of use cases, such as data lakes, websites, mobile applications, backup and restore, archive, and big data analytics.

To celebrate 15 years of Amazon S3 and AWS, join us March 15 through March 18 for AWS Pi Week, hosted on the AWS channel on Twitch between 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM PT (12:00 PM – 4:00 PM PTE) daily. We have an awesome agenda being finalized for the four-day event, including an inside look at some of the key decisions involved in the building and evolution of Amazon S3 (with some special guests you won’t want to miss). Each day of the event is based on a particular theme, and the sessions hosted on Twitch throughout each day will reflect that day’s theme. The daily themes are as follows:

March 15, 2021: Amazon S3 origins – foundations of cloud infrastructure

The AWS Global Cloud Infrastructure is the most secure, extensive, and reliable cloud platform, offering over 200 fully featured services from data centers globally. AWS provides you with cloud infrastructure where and when you need it.

March 16, 2021: Building data lakes and enabling data movement

AWS offers the most complete solutions to efficiently migrate to the cloud, enabling customers to save costs, become more agile, increase productivity, and experience business results faster. With data in AWS, customers can then accelerate the performance of their applications.

March 17, 2021: Security is job zero – Amazon S3 security framework and best practices

Cloud security at AWS is job zero – the highest priority – it started that way, and continues to be the starting point for all new services and features. AWS customers benefit from a data center and network architecture that are built to meet the requirements of the most security-sensitive organizations.

March 18, 2021: Amazon S3 and the foundations of a serverless infrastructure

It’s impossible to overstate the importance of innovation. AWS offers you smarter ways to innovate, evolve, and thrive – all stemming from our culture, mechanisms, and architecture that supports rapid growth and change.

In this virtual event you will learn:

  • How S3 and other AWS services are architected for availability and durability inside AWS Regions and Availability Zones.
  • How S3’s strong consistency model works to support many different workloads.
  • The history of and best practices for S3 data security.
  • How AWS architects evolvable services that provide new features and greater scalability with no disruption to customers.
  • Detailed ways to move data into and out of the AWS Cloud.

We are looking forward to connecting with you on Twitch over the course of AWS Pi Week, see you there!
