Since the mobile version of this software runs on Arm processors, we decided to test its performance on AWS Graviton3-based Amazon EC2 C7g instances. Rebuilding our software to run on C7g instances took us one working day, and the results were promising. “We migrated several production workloads to AWS Graviton2-based instances, including the bidding service, data pipelines, databases, and internal tools. On average, we experienced 15% better performance for our workloads and a total cost saving of about 30% considering the lower per-instance cost and the fewer number of instances due to better performance. Our applications are primarily based on Python, Golang, NodeJs, and Docker. We use a lot of open-source software in Jampp, and we found that most of the services we used, such as Redis-cluster, Nginx, NodeJS, Prometheus, and Thanos, supported Graviton2 instances. The switch to Graviton2 was almost transparent in every case. We just needed some minor adjustments regarding dependency management to provision the corresponding Arm version of each tool. On average, it took us two weeks to migrate each workload to Graviton2 instances. We plan to move all our main services to Graviton2 soon, including EMR, TrinoDB, and several in-house applications."

"Our blockchain nodes, web applications, and automation are built using Golang, Nodejs, Python, and Rust. Most of our workloads are processing large scale transaction volumes. As early as 2021, we’ve seen large growth in transaction volumes, so we needed to increase processing performance while maintaining costs. When we benchmarked our applications on Graviton-based Amazon EC2 C7g, C6g, and R6g instances against comparable x86-based Amazon EC2 instances, we observed 30% higher performance and throughput, along with 30% lower costs. We have custom blockchain nodes software that extract performance from the CPU architecture. The availability of arm64 based images for our software resulted in a seamless migration to Graviton-based instances. From benchmarking to production, migration took us about 2 months. We also use Graviton-based instances across many workloads and AWS services, including Amazon RDS, Amazon OpenSearch Service, and Amazon DocumentDB. We are planning to scale all of our upcoming services and applications to run primarily on Graviton."

Redbox is America’s leading source for affordable new release movie rentals and TV shows, without a subscription. Redbox operates more than 41,500 conveniently located, self-service entertainment kiosks and run nightly inventory forecasts to ensure customers get the movies they want, when they want them. The forecasting algorithm is mostly compute bound and runs on C5 instances today. When Redbox saw the AWS Graviton2 announcement they were keen to test the new Amazon EC2 M6g instances to see how they perform for this use case. Comparing m5.2xlarge vs m6g.2xlarge Redbox found the performance was almost identical but the M6g is 20% lower cost. Redbox is impressed that Graviton2 is trading blows with x86 in the server space.
Rooter Sports is India’s leading game streaming platform for more than 500 million gamers and sports fans, with a vision to become India's largest sports community.
"Video processing and streaming are the key workloads for Rooter. Video transcoding using FFMPEG is CPU-intensive, and by running it on AWS Graviton2-based EC2 C6g instances, we saw an average of 30% price performance improvement compared to x86-based C5 instances. Scalability on Graviton was only limited by the number of Kubernetes PODs per node, rather than CPU utilization, which remained 20% lower compared to x86-based instances. We started with a 2 node cluster, but scaled out rapidly. The few blockers we faced, such as Arm-compatible EFS (Elastic File Store) drivers, were quickly resolved by working with AWS. Once we gained confidence, we also started using Graviton instances to run self-managed Spark cluster, that uses Java (JDK8). The entire migration was done by our SRE team with minimum help from the development team. It took them 1 week to move the workload to AWS Graviton2, including the time taken for initial setup, load test, and final migration."

“The Wix.com data platform processes 40-50 TB of incoming data daily. This data platform uses 200 Trino nodes and 100 Amazon EMR nodes. We adopted Graviton-based instances with the goal of improving the price performance for these workloads. As part of the transition to AWS Graviton2-based R6gd and M6gd instances, we worked through Arm compatibility of 3rd party packages and needed minimal code changes. The transition to AWS Graviton2 took one month of effort by a single developer and overall helped us reduce the workload cost by 15% compared to the fifth generation x86-based instances we were previously using. As the next step we plan to migrate additional Trino clusters and Amazon EKS workloads to Graviton2-based instances.”
