AWS Teams Up with Leading Telcos to Launch the ‘Integrated Private Wireless on AWS’ Program

New private wireless program will bring together AWS’s reliable and secure infrastructure and services with 5G/4G LTE networks from leading telcos including Deutsche Telekom, KDDI, Orange, T-Mobile, and Telefonica Tech to provide enterprises with easy and fast ways to discover and deploy private wireless offering

Enterprise customers and telcos have expressed to us the need to simplify the process to discover, deploy, and manage private wireless networks. Private wireless offers a more secure, reliable connectivity solution compared to WiFi. Private wireless can help enterprises harness artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), data analytics, and Internet of Things (IoT) to enhance quality and service, drive efficiencies, lower supply chain risk, and enhance customer satisfaction. However, for many enterprises, it’s been too expensive, slow, and complex to build and operate private networks.

Today, we are announcing a new program to help address these challenges: Integrated Private Wireless on AWS. Built in close collaboration with leading telcos, including Deutsche Telekom, KDDI, Orange, T-Mobile, and Telefonica Tech, the Integrated Private Wireless program combines private 4G and 5G wireless technologies from leading telcos with AWS services across AWS Regions, AWS Local Zones, AWS Outposts, and AWS Snow Family. The program will also leverage AWS’s dynamic community of more than 100,000 partners from over 150 countries, offering additional validated solutions that run on AWS.

AWS makes it easy for enterprise customers to discover private wireless offerings. Using the Integrated Private Wireless on AWS portal, customers can explore private wireless offerings from participating telcos, browsing by industry or use case. From the portal, customers can contact the telco of choice, who will design, deliver, operate, and support the private wireless solution.

In addition to the benefits to enterprises, the Integrated Private Wireless on AWS program also aims to help our telco collaborators accelerate innovation.

Antje Williams, Senior Vice President, 5G Campus Networks, Deutsche Telekom: “Deutsche Telekom is focused on driving innovation and developing new solutions to better serve both our consumer and enterprise customers. We have up to 50 Deutsche Telekom Campus Networks customers in Greece, Germany, Czech, Slovak, Austria, Croatia, and Hungary and have learned a lot from working closely with them. Based on this customer feedback, we saw an opportunity to further innovate and scale our campus network solutions by working with AWS. The collaboration enables us to deliver even more value.”

Yasuaki Kuwahara, Managing Executive Officer, KDDI: “KDDI and AWS have a history of working together to pioneer new technologies for 5G and edge. For example, in 2019, we worked closely with AWS on AWS Wavelength, a service connecting KDDI’s public 5G network with AWS for ultra-fast, low latency edge computing. Once again, we’re pleased to collaborate on a secure, dedicated 5G private wireless and edge compute offering to further accelerate our customers’ digital transformations.”

Valérie Cussac, Executive Vice President Smart Mobility Services, Orange Business: “Orange and AWS have a track record of co-innovating for the benefit of our customers. This is why Orange is pleased to leverage its leading-edge Pikeo initiative and partnership with AWS to launch its new solution Mobile Private Network cloud. With our operator-integrator expertise, Orange Business can orchestrate, integrate and operate 5G private networks on AWS and edge infrastructure to unleash innovative use cases, combining private 5G, IoT, cloud/edge, data and AI.”

Mishka Dehghan, Senior Vice President of Strategy, Product and Solutions Engineering, T-Mobile Business Group: “T-Mobile has been working to solve the complexity in this space for customers with our 5G Advanced Network Solutions. T-Mobile’s 5G ANS portfolio gives businesses the optimal level of performance they need with 5G public, hybrid, or private network options. Now, as the first US provider to collaborate with AWS on customizable solutions via the Integrated Private Wireless on AWS portal, we make it even easier for customers to get what they need to run their business.”

Andres Escribano, Vice President of New Business, Telefonica Tech: “Telefonica Tech and AWS have been working to leverage Private MEC (Multi-Access Edge Computing) to improve operational efficiencies and deliver value to their end customers. Now with Integrated Private Wireless on AWS, we can combine the power of 5G connectivity, public, and private MEC with AWS infrastructure and services to give customers flexibility, agility, and control to maximize the value of the data they generate.”

Private wireless holds tremendous promise to help enterprises realize the benefits of Industry 4.0 and for communication services providers to generate new lines of revenue. In the coming months, we’ll be working with these telcos to create and launch further use cases and offerings, and extending to others to do the same. By working closely together, we’ll be able to reduce the barriers of cost, time, and complexity, and we can help enterprise more easily discover private wireless offerings that meet their needs.
