Amazon Neptune free trial FAQs

Q: Who is eligible for the Amazon Neptune free trial?
You are eligible for the free trial if your organization has never created an Amazon Neptune cluster until April 20, 2022 or later.

Q: Which Amazon Neptune instance types can I use for my free trial?
You can use db.t3.medium or db.t4g.medium instances (2 vCPUs and 4 GiB RAM) for the free trial.

Q: What features are included in the free trial?
All Amazon Neptune capabilities are available in the free trial, such as high availability, open graph APIs, automated backups and database snapshots. You will incur charges for other AWS services like SageMaker notebooks through Neptune workbench or OpenSearch through Neptune full text search if you use them during the free trial.

Q: How long is the free trial?
For one month after your trial starts, you will receive 750 hours, 10 million I/O requests, 1 GB of storage and 1 GB of backup storage across all running db.t3.medium or db.t4g.medium instances in all regions. If you are running multiple db.t3.medium or db.t4g.medium instances, you may exceed 750 hours of usage in one month. Usage in excess of 750 hours will be billed at the standard On-Demand Rate.

Q: How do I start the free trial?
You will automatically be subscribed to the trial as soon as you create your first Amazon Neptune cluster. You will use a trial hour for each hour your cluster is running.

Q: Can I create multiple instances with the free trial?
Yes, you can create multiple db.t3.medium or db.t4g.medium instances with the Neptune free trial. The free trial will only cover up to 750 hours total in usage across all t3.medium or t4g.medium instances in all supported regions in your AWS account.

For example, if you start a free trial by creating 2 Neptune db.t3.medium instances in US East (N. Virginia) continuously in a 30-day month, you will use 375 hours of free instance hours for each, which means the free trial will cover usage for approximately 15 days. The total cost for 2 Neptune t3.medium instances running continuously in US East (N. Virginia) with 750 free hours in a 30-day month is $67.62 ($0.098 * 690) instead of $141.12 ($0.098 * 1440 hours). 2 instances * 24 hours / instance * 30 days = 1440 hours.

Q: How do I make sure I’m not being charged?
You can view your Amazon Neptune charges or download a usage report by going to the billing dashboard in the AWS Console. You can also track your current usage of the Amazon Neptune free trial using the AWS Billing Console by navigating to the “Free Tier” section.
