AI agents live on-chain

Overview

BNB Chain set out to make it easier for developers to bring AI agents on-chain and run them as reliable, production-ready services. Previously, deploying agents with on-chain identity and payment capabilities required specialist Web3 skills and could take days or weeks. To simplify the process, BNB Chain built BNB Agent Studio on Amazon Web Services (AWS), using Amazon Bedrock AgentCore to give developers a secure, managed runtime for AI agents. Developers can now deploy persistent, globally accessible agents in under 15 minutes. Today, more than 120,000 agents have been created across BNB Chain as ownable, transferable digital entities that are no longer tied to a single machine.

Opportunity

Freeing developers to unlock AI agent innovation

As AI models became better at executing multi-step tasks, demand grew for on-chain AI agents that could reason, act, and transact. But building them remained complex. Developers often had to stitch together multiple independent systems, a process that could take weeks and required specialized blockchain expertise. Many also struggled to turn local prototypes into stable, production-grade services for global users because their agents were still running in developer environments.

BNB Chain built BNB Agent Studio to take developers from idea to worldwide deployment. The platform’s runtime environment needed to be framework- and model-agnostic, supporting different tools, models, and ways of working. It also had to isolate each agent so a breach in one environment could not reach another, especially because agents may hold keys and sign transactions. In addition, the environment had to free AI agents from local hardware constraints and scale automatically based on demand.

Nina Rong, executive director of growth at BNB Chain, says, “We wanted developers to focus on building their AI agent logic while we handled everything else.”

Amazon Bedrock AgentCore gave us the enterprise-grade runtime infrastructure to make on-chain agents production-ready—secure, scalable, and reliable from day one.

Solution

Transforming AI agent deployment with Amazon Bedrock AgentCore

BNB Chain chose Amazon Bedrock AgentCore to provide the secure, scalable runtime infrastructure needed to bring on-chain AI agents into production. Using AWS, developers can work with their preferred framework, such as LangChain or Strands, while retaining their own orchestration logic. Each agent is automatically isolated inside a microVM, creating a boundary that no other agent can access. Rong adds, “Amazon Bedrock AgentCore gave us the enterprise-grade runtime infrastructure to make on-chain agents production-ready—secure, scalable, and reliable from day one.”

When a developer finishes an AI agent in BNB Agent Studio, the platform packages its configuration and pushes it to the Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Runtime, where it goes live as a stable, globally accessible service. Once running, Amazon CloudWatch monitors the operational health of agents. The agent is also registered on BNB Chain with a persistent on-chain identity of its own, giving it a smart account with an address and the ability to hold and move value.

At the same time, developers retain ownership of their AI agents. Each agent’s configuration is anchored on-chain by BNB Chain, making it verifiable and preventing any single platform, including BNB Chain, from modifying or deleting it. Amazon Bedrock AgentCore keeps the agent’s prompts, memory, and tools auditable and exportable as code. The harness files live as decentralized objects on AWS, with an ownership pointer on BNB Smart Chain that records and verifies ownership. The harness files reside on Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) for low-latency access during execution, while agent identities are maintained in Amazon DynamoDB.

Collaboration between BNB Chain and AWS extended to co-engineering the solution. BNB Chain worked with AWS Generative AI Innovation Center to build an Infrastructure-as-Code generator that automatically produces an agent’s cloud environment in line with current security and least-privilege best practices. This removes the need for specialist cloud expertise, making it easier to deploy agents securely and consistently while reducing the time from idea to production.

Outcome

Reducing AI agent deployment time to under 15 minutes

By using Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, developers can deploy AI agents with on-chain identity and payment capabilities significantly faster, reducing a process that previously took days or weeks to under 15 minutes with BNB Agent Studio. Across the broader BNB Chain ecosystem, more than 120,000 AI agents have been created, reflecting growing interest in autonomous on-chain applications.

Developers can also manage costs more efficiently because compute is billed only when an agent is actively working. With fully managed AWS infrastructure, BNB Chain can reduce the operational effort needed to maintain agent availability.

The result is a new model for AI agents as persistent, ownable, and globally accessible digital entities, no longer tied to a single machine. They can be paused, resumed, migrated, recovered, and transferred, including through tokenization. Rong says, “Our roadmap over the next 12 months is to move toward fully autonomous on-chain payments, agent-to-agent commerce, and on-chain quality and reputation frameworks that give agents provable histories of reliable execution, increasing their market value.”
