Overview

Octopus8, a Singapore-based independent software provider, serves over 40 non-profit organizations across the country, helping them prioritize community care. For many social service entities, overwhelming administrative tasks often take time and effort away from serving those in need.

To address this, Octopus8 developed SocialServicesConnect, a cloud-based charity management system built on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The platform streamlines processes and improve efficiency, freeing up resources and expanding non-profits' capacity to engage with their beneficiaries.

By optimizing day-to-day operations, Octopus8 supports organizations in driving meaning change and amplifying their community impact. This dual focus on commercial success and social impact also demonstrates how business acumen and social responsibility can co-exist.

Octopus8 Case Study

Opportunity | Navigating Operational Challenges in the Social Sector

For many social service organizations, manual administrative work often divert resources from direct community care. Lawrence Luan, Octopus8's chief executive officer, gained firsthand insight into this challenge while volunteering at a local charity. There, he observed social workers spending as much as 70 percent of their day on tasks like paperwork and data entry.

Many community organizations do not possess the in-house IT support required to implement complex Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems. These systems are typically designed for commercial use and fail to accommodate the unique needs of non-profits.

Standard CRMs lack the flexibility required for essential functions like case management, donor engagement, and volunteer coordination. As a result, non-profits find it challenging to streamline operations, which limits their productivity and diverts them from their mission. Octopus8 recognized that a tailored solution was essential to reclaim valuable time and refocus on community care.

Solution | Using AWS and AI to Transform Non-Profit Operations

To meet the needs of non-profits, Octopus8 built SocialServicesConnect on AWS. The platform has driven significant improvements, reducing administrative tasks by 75 percent, increasing digital engagement by 300 percent, and enhancing decision accuracy by up to 90 percent. The company uses the secure and scalable infrastructure provided by AWS to deliver a robust solution that supports the growth and sensitive data requirements of non-profits. With AI-powered data insights, SocialServicesConnect helps these organizations optimize resources and strengthen community support.

Octopus8 utilized Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), which provides secure, resizable compute capacity in the cloud, to create a scalable infrastructure. This approach gives smaller non-profits access to enterprise-grade tools without the need to manage complex IT systems. As a result, they benefit from reliable performance as they expand their reach.

To enhance flexibility and reduce costs, Octopus8 deployed AWS Lambda, which automates tasks and removes the need for server management. With this architecture, non-profits can now expand their digital engagement without additional strain on resources.

For advanced analytics, Octopus8 integrated Amazon Redshift, a cloud data warehouse that can analyze exabytes of data and deliver near real-time insights. With these insights, non-profits can now make data-driven decisions on resource allocation, strengthening their community impact through better informed strategies. The enhanced analytical capability also helps organizations create comprehensive presentations and proposals for stakeholders, crucial for securing donations and quantifying impact.

The company also implemented Amazon Connect, a cloud-based contact center services that supports multi-channel communication. By consolidating voice, chat, and other channels, non-profits can maintain seamless interactions with donors, volunteers, and beneficiaries, fostering strong community connections.

Outcome | Driving Scalable Impact and Expanding Innovations

Building on SocialServicesConnect's success, Octopus8 has since expanded solutions with CXMConnect, an advanced omnichannel platform built using AWS. This new solution enables organizations to seamlessly manage WhatsApp, voice, video, and email communications while delivering personalized, data-driven experiences. Powered by AWS, CXMConnect has easily scaled to extend Octopus8’s impact from social services to the healthcare and public services sectors.

Octopus8 is set to expand beyond Singapore, continuing to drive scalable and meaningful change in communities worldwide. By evolving its solutions to meet client needs, the company remains committed to empowering organizations to deepen their impact and adapt confidently to new challenges.

"At Octopus8, we believe that driving transformation in non-profits should be both accessible and impactful. AWS gives us the tools to build tailored solutions that meet the unique challenges of social services, without unnecessary complexity or cost. Our mission is to leverage technology that truly changes lives, and with AWS, we’re making that vision a reality," said Lawrence Luan, chief executive officer of Octopus8.

Collaboration.Ai Achieves DoD Authorization in Less Than 90 Days, Saves $2 Million with Second Front, Chainguard, and AWS

Collaboration.Ai, a leader in AI-driven innovation management software, sought to expand into the US federal government sector, particularly the Department of Defense (DoD), with its end-to-end CrowdVector innovation management platform. Obtaining the required Authority to Operate (ATO) on DoD networks—a complex, lengthy, and costly process—posed a significant challenge for the startup. By engaging with AWS Partner Second Front, a member of the AWS Global Security & Compliance Acceleration (GSCA) program and using its Game Warden DevSecOps platform on AWS GovCloud (US), Collaboration.Ai secured a Certificate to Field (CTF) for DoD networks in less than 90 days. The deployment was accelerated further by using a custom registry of secure, minimal container images from AWS Partner Chainguard. This approach saved nearly two years of work and $2 million in compliance costs, swiftly opening access to the US federal government market.
