Snohomish County Public Utility District (SnoPUD) provides power and water services to 875,000 residents in Snohomish County and Camano Island in Washington state. Through its Connect Up initiative, the public utility is modernizing its meter infrastructure, using technology to provide better customer services. SnoPUD had been considering a secure meter data management system (MDMS) for years but knew that it was a complex, resource-intensive system that required constant synchronization and maintenance.
Because the industry is becoming more cloud-centric, the utility wanted to be ahead of the curve and opted to deploy a fully managed Meter Data Management Software (MDMS) on the cloud. SnoPUD used Amazon Web Services (AWS) to implement Siemens' Gridscale X MDMS and chose AWS Partner TRC Companies (TRC) as its managed service provider. By offloading maintenance of its MDMS to TRC, SnoPUD freed its staff for other value-added tasks, optimized costs, and increased uptime. Now, it can scale seamlessly for additional customers and continue to create innovative systems.
