TERESA CARLSON, VICE PRESIDENT, WORLDWIDE PUBLIC SECTOR, AMAZON WEB SERVICES
Teresa Carlson is the founder and leader of AWS Worldwide Public Sector, and one of the most accomplished and forwarding-thinking technology leaders in the world today. Through her charismatic leadership, Carlson has helped change mindsets of both individuals and organizations around the world, modernize policies at all levels of government, and cultivate a 21st century global workforce equipped with the skillset necessary to leverage the full potential of cloud to drive innovation.
Carlson founded the Worldwide Public Sector in 2010. Today, tens of thousands of government agencies, education institutions, and nonprofit organizations around the world use AWS. Additionally, Carlson advises Amazon Public Policy on global policy issues.
Prior to joining AWS, Carlson served as Vice President of Microsoft Federal Government, where she oversaw the company’s US Federal Government business.
Carlson earned her undergraduate and Masters of Science degrees in Communications and Speech and Language Pathology from Western Kentucky University.
ANDY JASSY, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, AMAZON WEB SERVICESAndy Jassy is founder and CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform. Jassy launched AWS in 2006 and has managed an inventive and nimble team that has delivered more than 165 services for compute, storage, networking, databases, analytics, mobile, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, security, hybrid, and enterprise applications. Today, AWS services are trusted by millions of active customers around the world – from the fastest growing startups to the largest enterprises and leading government agencies.
Prior to founding AWS, Jassy held several leadership positions across Amazon. Shortly after joining the company in 1997, he authored the business plan for Amazon’s Music business and served as its Director of Product Management and General Manager. Jassy also started the Amazon Customer Relationship Management (CRM) team, led marketing for Amazon, and was Technical Advisor (shadow) to Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos.
Jassy earned his BA from Harvard University and his MBA from Harvard Business School.
LORI GARVER, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, EARTHRISE ALLIANCELori Garver is the CEO of Earthrise Alliance - a philanthropic initiative that leverages Earth science data to combat climate change and funds fellowships and award grants to partner organizations focused on educators, journalists, voters, and decision makers. Garver is the former Deputy Administrator of NASA, and led the NASA transition team for President-Elect Obama, also serving as his lead space policy advisor on the campaign. She’s held multiple other senior positions, including Executive Director of the National Space Society, and is a co-founder and board member for organizations supporting women in aerospace. She is the recipient of three NASA Distinguished Service Medals and an Honorary Doctorate from Colorado College; and holds a BA in Political Economy from Colorado College and an MA in Science, Technology and Public Policy from George Washington University.
DR. DAVA NEWMAN, APOLLO PROGRAM PROFESSOR OF ASTRONAUTICS AND AERONAUTICS, MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY AND THE INSTITUTE FOR DATA, SYSTEMS AND SOCIETYDr. Dava Newman is the Apollo Program Professor of Astronautics and Aeronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Institute for Data, Systems and Society; as well as a Harvard–MIT Health, Sciences, and Technology faculty member. She is a MacVicar Faculty Fellow for excellence and outstanding contributions to undergraduate education. Her research expertise is in multidisciplinary aerospace biomedical engineering investigating human performance across the spectrum of gravity. She is also a leader in advanced space suit design, dynamics and control of astronaut motion, leadership development, innovation and space policy. Among her other accomplishments, Dr. Newman served as NASA Deputy Administrator from 2015–2017 – the first female engineer and scientist to serve in this role – and was awarded the NASA Distinguished Service Medal. She championed the human journey to Mars, technology and innovation, and education; was the principal investigator on four spaceflight missions; and has received numerous honors, including the Women in Aerospace Leadership Award.
