AWS for SAP

SAP Generative AI on AWS course now on AWS Skill Builder

The new SAP Generative AI on AWS course on AWS Skill Builder helps SAP organizations bridge the gap between SAP business data and AI services. Often, there aren’t enough skilled professionals who understand both domains resulting in delayed AI initiatives and missed competitive advantages.

If you’re an SAP architect, cloud engineer, or technical leader navigating this space, this course is designed for professionals like you. The course covers 4 modules along with 6 validated competency areas, and more than 15 architectural patterns across SAP and AWS environments.

You can now enroll in SAP Generative AI on AWS (Level 200) on AWS Skill Builder. This 90-minute intermediate course connects SAP environments with AWS generative AI services. It helps you architect, implement, and optimize generative AI solutions.

In this post, we walk through what the course covers, who it’s for, and how it helps you develop practical generative AI skills for SAP workloads on AWS.

The course builds skills through a well-defined learning progression. Each module introduces a concept and demonstrates it in context. You then apply it through a scenario-based exercise. Knowledge checks at each stage validate that you can use what you learned before moving on. This teach-show-apply-validate cycle helps you internalize patterns rather than memorize facts. You leave with skills you can use immediately in your SAP environment

What you’ll learn

This 90-minute course is designed for SAP Solutions Architects, Cloud Architects, Technical Leaders, and AWS professionals. It focuses on those working with SAP customers. You’ll receive practical guidance on architecting, implementing, and optimizing generative AI solutions within SAP environments using AWS services. Participants will gain proficiency across 6 key competency areas validated through knowledge checks at each stage.

Key learning objectives include:

  • Designing data architectures that support generative AI workloads using SAP data on AWS
  • Evaluating how SAP and AWS are collaborating to bring generative AI to SAP customers
  • Selecting appropriate AWS services for implementing generative AI solutions with SAP systems
  • Applying architectural patterns for agentic AI solutions
  • Implementing security and governance frameworks aligned with NIST standards
  • Navigating implementation challenges using AWS Well-Architected Framework principles

Course modules

The course combines expert instruction with hands-on demonstrations, scenario-based assessments, and worked examples at each stage. Each module progresses from foundational concepts to applied patterns which would help you to map what you learn directly to your SAP environment. Knowledge checks validate understanding before you move to the next module. This approach validates understanding progressively. Participants can apply patterns to their own SAP environments. You’ll progress through four modules with knowledge checks to validate your understanding at each stage:

Module 1: Data foundation for AI (~20 min)

In this module you will learn how to design reliable data architectures using AWS Well-Architected Generative AI Lens principles. It covers data quality and preparation requirements across the generative AI lifecycle. This module covers performance optimization approaches. You’ll review real-time versus batch processing trade-offs for cost optimization. The module also addresses enterprise security and governance frameworks for reliable AI operations. Finally, it provides guidance on AWS data foundation tool selection for sustainable AI workloads. The module explores how AWS Glue Zero-ETL, AWS Lake Formation, Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases, and Amazon Quick can work together. These services create a data foundation for SAP generative AI integrations.

Module 2: Generative AI in SAP environments (~20 min)

Learn how SAP and AWS are collaborating to bring generative AI to SAP customers. The SAP-AWS AI Co-Innovation Program provides access to Amazon Bedrock, SAP BTP, cloud credits, and technical consulting. This module examines SAP’s Business AI framework built on three foundation pillars. It also explains how SAP BTP’s Generative AI Hub integrates with Amazon Bedrock along with AI Core, and AI Launchpad.

This module covers the SAP BTP reference architecture. Key components include CAP-based backends, SAP HANA Cloud Vector Engine for similarity search, and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) patterns. The module also covers SAP BTP integration with AWS IoT SiteWise and AWS IoT Greengrass. These services support event-driven edge-to-business-process architectures. It includes scalability considerations across platform architecture, data governance, and operational efficiency. The module also addresses NIST-aligned security covering data protection, vulnerability management, and threat prevention.

Module 3: Generative AI with SAP in AWS environments (~20 min)

Discover two complementary implementation pathways, SAP-aligned solutions using SAP BTP and Joule, and independent AWS-native approaches for maximum flexibility. This module covers

  • AWS SDK for SAP ABAP provides native ABAP integration with Amazon Bedrock foundation models. SAP developers can create generative AI apps using familiar programming paradigms.
  • Amazon Quick offers AI-powered assistants that help SAP business and technical users answer questions and act on them. It connects data across SAP applications and AWS services.
  • Amazon Bedrock AgentCore provides modular services for deploying AI agents at scale. It addresses exception automation, task orchestration, and routine ERP exception handling.
  • Multi-agent workflows use supervisor agents coordinating specialized sub-agents to handle complex SAP business processes across multiple systems.
  • Strands Agents SDK is an open source, model-agnostic SDK for building AI agents with native Model Context Protocol (MCP) support across SAP and AWS environments.
  • Amazon Quick for workflow orchestration uses Quick Flows and Quick Automate. These automate routine tasks and handle complex multi-step workflows.

This module also covers the dual agentic AI path. Amazon Bedrock AgentCore handles cross-system orchestration spanning SAP and non-SAP systems. SAP Joule Studio supports agents deeply grounded in SAP business processes. Both support open standards including MCP and Agent-to-Agent (A2A) protocol for interoperability. Joint Reference Architectures (JRAs) provide proven blueprints for intelligent solution deployment.

Module 4: Implementation and best practices (~20 min)

Learn to Well-Architected Generative AI Lens design principles to SAP generative AI implementations, including controlled autonomy, comprehensive observability, resource efficiency, distributed resilience, and secure interaction boundaries.

This module focuses on AI strategy and planning framework that addresses executive sponsorship alignment, cross-functional stakeholder engagement, and measurable ROI. A practical example of SAP Financial Close Process Enhancement illustrates these concepts. This module also covers monitoring and maintenance frameworks for production environments. AI-specific metrics include token consumption costs, model performance, inference latency, user adoption analytics, and business impact measurement.
