Protect critical services with new Continuity of Government IT on AWS solution guide

Today, AWS announced Continuity of Government IT on AWS (CGIT), a comprehensive cloud-based solution guide that enables governments to protect their digital assets and services during disruptions of any kind. Governments can use CGIT to retain the integrity of critical datasets, back up applications, and transfer services to run in the cloud, reducing the risk of compromise and enabling continuity of government.

Announcing nine startups selected to participate in the AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator for Infrastructure

AWS announced the startups chosen to participate in the AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator for Infrastructure. These startups are developing groundbreaking solutions to help cities address infrastructure-related sustainability challenges. Infrastructure, or the built environment, encompasses all aspects of our lives, and includes real estate, manufacturing, power, utility, and transportation systems. The nine startups in the cohort originate from four countries across North America, Latin America, and Europe, and represent a wide range of innovative sustainable solutions.

Now available: New AWS program supporting nonprofit donor and member engagement

As one-time donations increasingly become the norm, nonprofit development teams are challenged to think outside-the-box to attract, retain, and communicate with their valuable supporters. Nonprofit organizations can use data to inform an enhanced engagement strategy, but many are challenged to unlock the full value of that data affordably and at scale. To help nonprofits use the cloud to build innovative fundraising and member engagement solutions, we are launching a new program – AWS TechAction.

Amazon and George Mason University collaborate to deliver new innovations in education and research

George Mason University (Mason) is on a mission to build a more student centric and technologically advanced education institution. Leveraging the breadth and depth of services across Amazon, including technical solutions from Amazon Web Services (AWS), the university will embark on a multi-year collaborative effort. Mason will drive new innovations to better serve students, work with the defense community, advance its commitment to a more sustainable campus environment, and introduce new educational programs in data center engineering.

AWS successfully runs AWS compute and machine learning services on an orbiting satellite in a first-of-its kind space experiment

At re:Invent 2022, AWS announced that it successfully ran a suite of AWS compute and machine learning (ML) software on an orbiting satellite, in a first-of-its-kind space experiment. The experiment, conducted over the past 10 months in low Earth orbit (LEO), was designed to test a faster, more efficient method for customers to collect and analyze valuable space data directly on their orbiting satellites using the cloud.

AWS re:Invent returns to Las Vegas, Nevada for 2022, from November 28 through December 2. The annual event helps customers and partners reimagine what’s possible by learning what’s new with AWS, growing their knowledge, and getting inspired by the global cloud community. AWS and Mountain Empire Community College bring no-cost skills course and career event to Southwest Virginia

The backbone of the internet is crisscrossed with a network of fiber optic cables, carrying internet, TV, and telephone data that most of use every day. Over a two-day period, 33 individuals mostly from Southwest Virginia took part in the AWS Fiber Optic Fusion Splicing Certificate Course, a no-cost two-day training providing students with lectures and hands-on practice with fiber optic installation and repair. The course was held November 14-15 at Mountain Empire Community College (MECC), in Appalachia, Virginia, and in collaboration with MECC and the LENOWISCO Planning District Commission.

Supporting smart and sustainable transportation innovation at the ITS World Congress

This year, the Intelligent Transportation Society (ITS) World Congress brought together more than 6,000 industry professionals from 64 countries to discuss ways to advance the deployment of intelligent transportation technologies to save lives, improve mobility, promote sustainability, and increase access to communities across the globe. For the event, ITS organized a Global Innovation Competition sponsored by AWS to encourage the development of innovative solutions that address priority themes using cloud technology.
