As part of the Registry of Open Data on AWS, AWS invited Alexander Rey, creator of Pirate Weather, to share how AWS technologies and open data are supporting his efforts to provide a no cost and open weather forecast API.

In 2021, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) announced the creation of the Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability (JWCC) contract—a multi-vendor acquisition vehicle designed to make cloud services and capabilities available at all classification levels and across all security domains, from the enterprise to the tactical edge. JWCC will enable the DoD to fully leverage the capabilities of the cloud to meet current and future mission initiatives. Further, JWCC is key to enabling critical warfighter capabilities, such as the Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2), and the DoD Artificial Intelligence and Data Acceleration Initiative (ADA). As the DoD continues to modernize the way it supports the warfighter and defends our national security, AWS is committed to supporting its critical mission.

Earlier this year, US President Joe Biden set a goal to end cancer as we know it by improving prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment. To answer this call, AWS is expanding its ongoing work with the Children’s Brain Tumor Network (CBTN). Together, AWS and the CBTN will enable researchers and clinicians to share and analyze medical record, imaging, genomic, and other data in near real-time to speed development of new therapies for pediatric brain cancers.

Graph database solutions like Amazon Neptune from AWS help organize learner information to enable more holistic analysis for educational institutions and education technology companies (EdTechs). By linking learner data from multiple sources and drawing new correlations from data, educators can deliver more personalized learning experiences. The United Arab Emirates Space Agency and AWS have signed a Statement of Strategic Intent and Cooperation that is designed to support the creation of a vibrant, sustainable, competitive, and innovative space sector in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). AWS will collaborate with the United Arab Emirates Space Agency and related UAE government space organizations on three initiatives designed to support the Space Agency’s long-term development goals.

The First Street Foundation, a nonprofit research and technology group, is committed to making climate risk information accessible, simple to understand, and actionable for individuals, governments, and industry. As part of the Amazon Sustainability Data Initiative (ASDI), AWS invited Dr. Ed Kearns, the chief data officer of First Street Foundation, to share how AWS technologies and open data are supporting their mission to provide accurate and up-to-date information on climate related risks.

Texas Region 4 ESC (TX-Region 4) is a regional education service center that offers a range of services that help K12 education organizations improve student performance, enable faculty success, and implement state initiatives. When TX-Region 4 wanted to migrate its business intelligence (BI) solution to the cloud, they turned to AWS and Amazon QuickSight to save time and produce more insights to better their educational offerings.

Airports receive data from dozens of disparate sources, but this data can lack the collective unity needed to see the bigger picture. The Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) saw an opportunity to turn down the proverbial volume on their data. Using AWS, CVG created a first-of-its-kind tool using data for predictive analytics and proactive notifications, now known as Enterprise Awareness & Situational Exceptions (EASE).

Moving sensitive US government data to the cloud requires the meticulous application of a proven migration methodology, skilled resources, a robust solution, and a mature logistics model. A US government agency elected to move its Security and Information Event Management (SIEM) system from a virtualized, on-premise environment to the AWS Cloud. AWS Partner Booz Allen performed the migration and used the AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) and AWS Snow Family of devices as mechanisms to help the customer save time, reduce costs, and increase their agility to develop new features for their constituents.

My favorite part of re:Invent, this year and every year, is the opportunity it provides to hear directly from AWS Partners and customers. As always, I’m impressed by the value that partners are delivering for customers, and I’m encouraged at the opportunities ahead of us to continue innovating, simplifying, and delivering results. For any partners who weren’t able to attend on-site, I want to share what the worldwide public sector partners team is working on to better serve partners.
