Canva Chooses AWS to Support 55 Million Global Users

Canva migrated to Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) to gain more control over its databases and to work with a mature cloud provider with more integrated offerings. With 55 million monthly active users—many in developing markets such as Brazil and Indonesia—who have created over five billion designs, or 100+ designs per second, Canva needed a way to support its fast-growing customer base. Cloud computing was a natural choice from the start, to align with the company’s global vision as well as for storage and processing needs for the huge data sets generated from designs and supporting images. The migration paved the way for other innovations using machine learning.

Canva Works with AWS Professional Services to Augment Security with Data Lake

To accelerate the deployment and reduce the cost of developing a solution to enhance Canva’s IT security posture, AWS Professional Services recommended a cloud-based data lake. Canva can now process and store more than 50 million log records every day and enrich them with additional threat indicator information. The solution allows Canva to quickly search and analyze log data through visualizations and dashboards, which speeds up detecting potential threats and compromises so the company can respond proactively before cyberattacks occur.

Canva Helps the World Design the Future with Data-Driven Insights Using AWS

In this video, Fawaz Ahmed, Canva’s director of engineering, talks about how data drives the business. Each week, the design platform handles around 100 billion events and 400 TB of data. Canva uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) solutions to help it manage and scale its data infrastructure. Specifically, Amazon Kinesis allows it to process and analyze streaming data, giving even non-data specialists—such as its product managers—the insight they need to deliver value to customers.
