Redefining Livestock Care in the Digital Age

Built on AWS, CattleEye is the world's first hardware-independent autonomous livestock monitoring platform.

Overview

Built on AWS, CattleEye is the world's first hardware-independent autonomous livestock monitoring platform. Utilising a standard security camera, CattleEye technology captures footage of each cow as they exit the milking parlor, recording, and analysing their movements. This facilitates proactive care, offering farmers insights into their herd’s health, and productivity.

The platform's mobility scoring module monitors cow locomotion, pinpointing those in need of attention. By assisting in the selection of cows for hoof trimming and treatments, CattleEye effectively reduces lameness, boosting efficiency and reducing their herd’s carbon footprint. Farmers adopting this herd management technology realise an average saving of $420 per cow annually.

When selecting the compute versions to run on within AWS, we use the AWS carbon footprint tool for EC2. This lets us select the devices that give us the optimal balance of cost, availability and sustainability, and through this process we opted to run our algorithms on CPU, rather than GPU.
