Cerner Builds Clinical Decision Support Platform on AWS to Help Hospitals Improve Patient Care

Hospitals need situational awareness data to understand more about their patient populations, make predictions about care needs, and execute workflows more efficiently. The Cerner Corporation (Cerner) Machine Learning Ecosystem brings that awareness to hospitals. 

Cerner is bringing machine learning and artificial intelligence to health systems through its Cerner Machine Learning Ecosystem, which can ingest data and make near-real-time predictions about patient care and hospital operations—such as hospital capacity and length of individual patient stay—that healthcare systems and clinicians can use to make more informed decisions. “There is a very carefully curated dataset that needs to be brought to bear in real time for people in healthcare to do their best work and for the clinicians and patients to get their best experience,” says Lisa Gulker, senior director of health system operations at Cerner.

Using Amazon Web Services (AWS) tools, the Cerner Machine Learning Ecosystem delivers situational awareness to hospitals. “We work very hard with all of the tools that are brought to us and the services brought to us in the cloud architecture on AWS in order to connect lots of data sources in a meaningful and very nimble and agile way,” says Gulker.
