Overview

As payment volumes and regulatory demands increase, Financial Software and Systems (FSS) sought to strengthen agility and simplify IT management. Its on-premises data center was complex to maintain and limited the company’s ability to scale and adapt quickly. By migrating the majority of its workloads to Amazon Web Services (AWS), FSS improved performance across its payment services—reducing infrastructure deployment times and cost by 40 percent, increasing operational efficiency by 50 percent, and lowering transaction latency by 35 percent.

About Financial Software & Systems

Financial Software & Systems powers mission-critical payment solutions for banks and financial institutions across India, the Middle East, and Africa, with a portfolio of 14 products spanning card management, reconciliation, digital payments, and real-time transactions.

Opportunity | Overcoming data center limitations to sustain growth

Handling over 10,000 transactions per second and reconciling more than 1 billion transactions each month, FSS plays a major role in India’s real-time payments ecosystem, processing close to 30 percent of the market’s transactions. As business volumes grew and regulatory demands became more stringent, the company’s on-premises infrastructure began to constrain operations. Much of its hardware was nearing end-of-life, and IT teams had to manage over 56 operating systems, 20 application servers, and 6 database engines, each with separate patching and upgrade routines.

While retaining a small portion of workloads on premises for compliance, FSS sought to migrate most systems to the cloud to simplify operations, reduce costs, and accelerate innovation. The company looked for a provider offering a wide range of cloud services and open-source solutions to increase development speed and provide access to skilled engineering talent. Jayaprakash Aridoss, head of hosting services at Financial Software & Systems, says, “Finding the right cloud provider was critical in successfully opening the door to the next phase of our growth.

Solution | Reimagining payments with a unified fintech platform

FSS chose AWS for its depth of open-source integration, mature security frameworks, and data center presence in the AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai) Region and AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region. The availability of AWS-skilled engineers in the market further supported FSS’s plan to migrate swiftly without external dependencies. With support from AWS Professional Services, the company began designing its cloud foundation to ensure security, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Close collaboration with AWS Professional Services helped FSS design and optimize its AWS Landing Zones, define security baselines, and build standard operating procedures for cloud operations. The engagement also provided hands-on training that transformed the company’s legacy data center engineers into skilled AWS operators. “Through knowledge transfer sessions with AWS Professional Services, our legacy data center team became proficient AWS engineers, reducing future costs and removing the need to depend on third parties,” says Jayaprakash.

FSS migrated its legacy monolithic applications to a microservices architecture on AWS to strengthen resilience and speed up development. The company used Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) to orchestrate containerized microservices, while Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) powers transactional databases. For faster access to frequently queried data, FSS adopted Amazon ElastiCache, and to manage near real-time event streaming and asynchronous data flows across its microservices ecosystem, implemented Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (Amazon MSK). To uphold security, governance, and compliance controls across the platform, FSS integrated Amazon API Gateway, AWS WAF, AWS Config, AWS CloudTrail, and AWS Security Hub.

As a result of its migration, FSS developed FSS Blaze, a unified fintech platform that supports banks and financial institutions in offering next-generation, AI-powered payment services. Blaze integrates easily with existing banking systems to create a connected digital ecosystem, while its microservices architecture delivers resilience and dynamic scalability. “By leaving our legacy systems behind, we created the foundation for Blaze and turned ideas into AI-powered services faster,” says Ashish Shrivastava, business head of digital engineering at FSS. One of India’s national banks adopted Blaze in under 90 days—a process that would previously have taken up to nine months on a monolithic, on-premises infrastructure, showcasing the platform’s rapid deployment capabilities.

Outcome | Delivering 40% faster deployments and 50% greater efficiency

FSS continues to strengthen its IT performance and stay ahead in digital payments. The company has reduced infrastructure deployment times by 40 percent, increased operational efficiency by 50 percent, and lowered transaction latency by 35 percent. It has also cut costs by up to 40 percent, while compliance updates that once took weeks or months are now completed in days. The platform now runs on a compliant AWS infrastructure with a disaster recovery setup, providing banks with greater reliability and peace of mind. “Developers can act on ideas faster because our teams now have the agility to build and launch securely in the cloud,” says Jayaprakash.

FSS is also accelerating growth by building on the flexibility of AWS and the broad familiarity with its tools among IT professionals. Vishal Maru, head of Global Processing at Financial Software & Systems concludes, “Our collaboration with AWS helped us modernize and simplify our systems, reduce costs, and deliver faster, while strengthening internal expertise and preparing our teams for the future of fintech.”
