Overview

Gridlogic is a real-money technology company specializing in gaming technology, platform building, and data analytics, with operations in multiple countries. As the company set its sights on attaining a revenue milestone by mid-2027, it needed a scalable infrastructure to support the growth of its flagship brands, Taj Rummy and Taj Games.

To achieve seamless scaling, simplified management, and reduced compute costs, Gridlogic migrated its platform to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and modernized its architecture using cloud-native services. As a result, revenue has grown 11-fold over the past 12 months, compute costs have been halved, and developers now save valuable time on software deployment.

About Gridlogic

Headquartered in Gurugram, India, Gridlogic specializes in gaming technology solutions and platforms, with its flagship brands Taj Rummy and Taj Games, and is one of India’s key players in the online gaming market. With additional offices in Singapore and London, the company was recognized for its industrious innovations in the B2B market, receiving the Best Rummy Network of the Year award at the 2023 G2G Expo for the Taj Network.

Opportunity | Building a Sustainable Infrastructure for Expansion and Growth

Gridlogic is a rapidly growing company based in India, specializing in software development with a strong focus on gaming technology. It offers a range of services, including game applications, platform building, and data analytics. Originally a business-to-business (B2B) company offering white-label online gaming to other organizations, Gridlogic has pivoted toward the business-to-consumer (B2C) market with brands such as Taj Rummy India’s first online rummy brand secured with AI for player protection and Taj Games, a one-stop destination for Gridlogic’s games such as rummy, poker, fantasy sports, and ludo.

Gridlogic is aiming for 100-fold growth by mid-2027, setting the stage for its next strategic phase. As part of preparation, it’s also expanding its portfolio of games to include poker and fantasy sports. Pariekshit Maddishetty, founder at Gridlogic, says, “We’ve learned a lot about creating online games since launching in 2008, and we’re applying that expertise to rapidly scale up and meet the growing demand for our products across India.”

To support its rapid expansion, Gridlogic needed an infrastructure that could seamlessly accommodate hundreds of thousands of new gamers, especially during peak periods. Its legacy on-premises architecture struggled to keep up, and managing a data center stack capable of handling such high volumes of online traffic would have been costly. “We were entering a hyper-growth phase for the business, but we still needed to ensure expansion was sustainable,” explains Anantha Krishna Tirumalai, chief technology officer at Gridlogic.

Solution | Migrating and Modernizing Applications for Scalability and Cost Efficiency

Gridlogic decided to migrate from its on-premises data center to AWS. With some IT team members already familiar with AWS, and plenty of local talent available with AWS skills, the migration planning began in collaboration with an AWS account manager. The team transitioned applications to Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and moved its databases to Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS).

Using AWS Database Migration Service (AWS DMS), Gridlogic completed the migration with zero data loss or downtime. “The entire process was seamless, and we couldn’t have been more pleased with our first experience of AWS,” says Tirumalai.

Next, the company began working with AWS to modernize its cloud infrastructure. The aim was to break down its monolithic applications into microservices to simplify scaling and management. Gridlogic adopted Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS), a fully managed container orchestration service, to efficiently deploy, manage, and scale containerized applications. It also built a continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline to streamline software delivery. “We’ve automated virtually the entire build and deployment processes, plus regression testing,” comments Tirumalai. “Deployments are delivered in a single click on a console, saving us valuable time.”

To optimize costs, Gridlogic moved to Amazon EC2 Reserved Instances (RI) for its databases and AWS Graviton Processors for its test and development environments. “We had a call with AWS, and the team highlighted the cost savings we could make by switching instance types and moving from x86 chips to AWS Graviton,” recalls Tirumalai. Using RIs has saved the company 40 percent on its monthly compute costs, and with AWS Graviton, test and development costs fell by 50 percent. Mohammad Azeemoddin, IT manager at Gridlogic, says, “There was no loss of performance. AWS Graviton proved to be a great decision.”

Tirumalai adds, “While optimizing our infrastructure, we realized AWS truly understood our business needs—not just our focus on growth, but also the importance of cost efficiency.”

Outcome | Achieving 11x Revenue Growth and Releasing New Features in 12 Months

Within 12 months of entering its hyper-growth phase, Gridlogic released 13 new app versions of Taj Rummy and Taj Games, and launched several campaigns to drive engagement and attract new players. As a result, revenue has grown 11-fold. “We saw player numbers rise and handled traffic spikes effortlessly, all thanks to the scalability of our platform on AWS,” says Tirumalai.

Maddishetty continues, “We’re confident in achieving our 100-fold growth target by mid-2027 now. Revenue from our B2C division represented 5 percent of our income just over a year ago, but now it’s closer to 70 percent. We couldn’t have done it without the support from AWS.”

With the modernization project complete, Gridlogic looks forward to expanding its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities with AWS. The company will use Amazon SageMaker to deploy AI models into the production environment and develop those models using AI data pipelines developed in-house. "We’ve just begun to explore replacing our organically grown pipelines with Amazon SageMaker to streamline the workflow,” says Tirumalai. “This will give us more time to be creative and develop solutions to propel our business forward."
