Introducing Forward Deployed Engineering for Partners: Winning the Future of Enterprise AI

Enterprise AI has outgrown the advisory model. Customers are not asking for roadmaps. They are asking who can put production agentic systems into their environment — running under real governance, on real data, in weeks. The shift is from counsel to outcomes. And the partner who delivers outcomes first wins the architecture relationship for the future.
Today, AWS announced Forward Deployed Engineering, a dedicated organization backed by a $1 billion investment to embed thousands of engineers directly with customers to co-develop and deploy agentic AI solutions at speed. FDE teams operate under actual customer constraints from day one and deliver systems structured for self-sufficiency, not ongoing dependency.
Our commitment does not stop with AWS engineers. The new Partner-Led Forward Deployed Engineering Motion extends that investment to our most strategic partners. Not as a certification. Not as a training program. As a durable, embedded delivery capability inside the consulting firms our customers already rely on — the same methodology, the same production bar, operating at the same velocity.
Why Partners, Why Now
Agentic AI has moved past strategy and proof-of-concept into execution. Demand for production-grade agentic systems has outpaced the delivery capacity of any single organization. Customers are no longer asking whether to deploy — they are asking who will build it fast enough to matter. They need to agentify IT operations, engineering workflows, supply chain decisions, and compliance monitoring across every business unit simultaneously.
Partners already hold the customer relationships, the industry context, and the delivery footprint to operate at that scale. What they have not had is a production-grade delivery methodology that compounds with every engagement.
The Agentic Process Transformation initiative gives customers and partners the right mental model for agentification: start with a business process, reimagine it for the agentic world, deploy it into production, and demonstrate measurable results. With APT, we validated both the demand signal and the delivery pattern. It also revealed that partners with deep domain expertise accelerate time-to-production when they operate under the same engineering bar.
The Partner-Led FDE motion takes that insight and makes it durable: a permanent delivery capability embedded inside our partners that holds the same production bar across all agentic work, compounds institutional knowledge with every engagement, and scales independently over time.
A Continuum of Customer Choice
The Partner-Led FDE motion is one part of the broader AWS Forward Deployed Engineering continuum. Customers choose how AWS and Partners show up: The production bar does not change regardless of the mode.
What Makes This Different: The Delivery Harness
Every Partner-Led FDE engagement builds a reusable harness the partner owns permanently: domain ontologies, evaluation frameworks, MCP servers, agent operations tooling, and a context graph that records the architecture choices, evaluation criteria, and domain patterns applied during each build.
The harness captures the knowledge that AWS and partner engineers apply together during a build, so the partner FDE team can apply it independently on subsequent engagements.
Partners also build the agents that amplify their own delivery: an architecture agent that proposes design decisions in real time, an agent-operations layer that bakes governance into everything it ships, and a reusable registry of capabilities that grows with each engagement. The delivery IP stays with the partner. The compounding advantage stays with the partner. The business outcome belongs to the customer.
How it Works
Partners will build ring-fenced, AWS-credentialed engineering teams with AWS support to deliver production agentic systems with AWS services. In early customer engagements, AWS engineers are deeply embedded with the partner to support the build journey. As more of the work moves into reusable patterns, AWS support will shift to helping the partner scale their FDE practice.
Partner AWS-credentialed engineers pass an AWS-defined technical bar before engaging with any customer. This is not a certification checkbox. It is a production-engineering standard, validated against the same methodology that AWS FDE teams use.
Getting Started
We are launching the Partner-Led FDE Motion with a limited set of partners. As we validate the delivery model, sharpen the harness, and scale it, we will extend it to the broader partner network. To get started, connect with your AWS Partner Development Manager.
