AWS Week in Review – April 13, 2015

Let’s take a quick look at what happened in AWS-land last week:

Monday, April 13	We announced that the Amazon WorkSpaces API and CLI is Now Available. The AWS Java Blog blog showed you how to Store JSON Documents in Amazon DynamoDB Tables. Larry Gadea showed you how to Run Your Own High-end Cloud Gaming Service on EC2 (further discussion in this Metafilter thread). The Cloudyn Blog said Get Your Cloud Cost Allocation Reports on Time: 3 Scenarios. The Cloud Endure Blog published Six Things You Should Know About Amazon S3 Replication.
Tuesday, April 14	We posted a new AWS Mobile Services Sample App. We announced AWS Direct Connect for the China (Beijing) Region. The AWS Ruby Development Blog dug in to Uploading Files to Amazon S3. We Welcomed the Newest AWS Community Heroes. A post on the Cake Tech Blog discussed DynamoDB Auto-Scaling. The Cloud Academy Blog talked about AWS Puppet Deployments.
Wednesday, April 15	We updated the AWS CLI. The AWS DevOps Blog talked about Using the Elastic Beanstalk (EB) CLI to Create, Manage, and Share Environment Configuration. The AWS Compute Blog talked about Using Amazon SNS to Trigger Lambda Functions. The AWS Mobile Development Blog announced Another 40% Reduction in the DEX Method Count in the AWS SDK for Android. The AWS Startup Collection‘s Startup Spotlight illuminated CrossChx, Square, JumpCloud, and Stem. The ElasticBox Blog declared AWS GovCloud and ElasticBox: A Complementary Union. The 2nd Watch Blog talked about Changing Business Culture to Speed Transition to the Cloud. The Gathering Clouds Blog published some AWS and Puppet DevOps Best Practices. Robert Read of Intel HPDD published a presentation on Lustre HSM in the Cloud.
Thursday, April 16	We released version 0.0.20 of cfncluster. The AWS Compute Blog talked about Running Arbitrary Executables in AWS Lambda. The AWS Security Blog talked about Dod-Compliant Implementations in the AWS Cloud. The Capside Labs Blog talked about Using AWS Virtual Tape Library as Storage for Bacula. Paolo Negri talked about Making Static Websites Less Static: s3 Cloud, AWS Lambda, and a Rough One-day Hack. Hugo-Lambda is a static site generator that runs in AWS Lambda. We updated the AWS SDK for Ruby, AWS CLI, AWS SDK for .Net, AWS SDK for JavaScript, and AWS SDK for Java. The AWS Partner Network Blog announced that Three New AWS Test Drives are Available. The N2W Software Blog published Part 2 of their series on How to Backup Active Directory Hosted in the AWS Cloud. The AWS Architecture Blog reviewed AWS re:Invent’s Architecture Track.
Friday, April 17	We launched the New G2 Instance Type with 4x More GPU Power. We announced support for In-place Windows OS Upgrades. We added AWS Customer Succcess Stories from AdRoll, CMP.LY, Eliza Corporation, News UK, Nike, Orion Health, Time Inc., Vessel, Wego, Y-Cam and Yo. We added System Sector, FreePBX, McAfee Public Cloud Server Security Suite, GS Patching Server for Windows EC2 Instances, EvoStream Media Server, and Squash Compression Website Edition to the AWS Marketplace. The AWS Big Data Blog published Part 2 of a long post on Launching and Running an Amazon EMR Cluster in Your VPC – Custom DNS. The AWS Startup Collection published an IotPrimer: Well Behaved Small Things. The Cloud Native Blog advised you to Think Again if you Fear the Chaos Monkey. The Fugue Blog talked about Immutable Infrastructure as it relates to Networks.
Saturday, April 18	The Cloudyn Blog published a Beginner’s Guide: 7 Ways to Optimize Cloud Costs with AWS.
Sunday, April 19	The Cloud Academy Blog published a Hands-On Guide to DevOps Application Management using AWS OpsWorks.
