AWS Week in Review – February 18, 2013

Let’s take a quick look at what happened in AWS-land last week:

Monday, February 18	We updated and improved a number of pages on the AWS site including Cloud Computing on AWS, the AWS Free Usage Tier, Enterprise on AWS, Start-ups on AWS, and Government & Education on AWS, and the AWS Economics Center. We also improved the Web, Mobile & Social, Digital Media, Backup & Storage, and Big Data pages.
Tuesday, February 19	We released AWS OpsWorks, a flexible application management system that uses Chef recipes. We announced the AWS Summits for 2013.
Wednesday, February 20	The AWS Marketplace now supports software running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The AWS Mobile Blog answers the question, Why is the AWS SDK for iOS so Big (hint: source and sample code plus binaries for three architectures). We introduced three new features for AWS CloudFormation (EBS-Optimized Instances, Rolling Deployments, and Cancellation of Stack Updates).
Thursday, February 21	We announced that EC2 High Memory Cluster and High I/O instances are now available in US West (Oregon). We added a number of new customer success stories including Imperia & Monferrina, Overseas Vote Foundation, Oyster.com, QlikTech, and SocialVibe.
Friday, February 22	AWS Marketplace and SAP started a promotion for HANA One, get $120 AWS Credit if you start a subscription between February 18th and March 31st and use the product for a minimum of 10 hours. This week AWS Marketplace added new products including GroundWork, UXWorld, XtremeData and Zadara and Zend. A new article in the AWS Java Blog shows you how to make Asynchronous Requests with the AWS SDK for Java. The AWS Ruby Blog has an article about contributing to the AWS SDK for Ruby and a release announcement for version 1.8.3 of the AWS SDK for Ruby.
Saturday, February 23	We published a new article to show you how to Analyze Log Data with Apache Hive, Windows PowerShell, and Amazon EMR.
Sunday, February 24	We published a new article to show you how to Run Spark and Shark on Amazon Elastic MapReduce. We announced that the CloudWatch Monitoring Scripts have been Updated.
