AWS Week in Review – March 30, 2015

Let’s take a quick look at what happened in AWS-land last week:

Monday, March 30	AWS Evangelist Ian Massingham reviewed the AWS User Group UK (London), Hull and North (Manchester) Meetups. We added several new presentations to SlideShare including RDS – Letting AWS run your Low Admin, High Performance Database and Delivering Mobile Apps Using AWS Mobile Services. We announced that AWS Elastic Beanstalk now Supports In-Place Platform Updates. We announced that AWS OpsWorks now Supports Larger and Faster EBS Volumes. We announced the Next Generation of Dense-storage Instances for EC2. We announced that AWS Storage Gateway Running on VMware ESXi Hypervisor Versions 5.1 and 5.5 is Now Supported. The AWS Partner Network Blog announced the Newest Big Data AWS Test Drive – Automated Data/Batch Processing from APN Technology Partner 47Line. The AWS Security Blog showed you How to Create a Limited IAM Administrator by Using Managed Policies. The Coinbase Developer Blog talked about Self-Service Cloud Security with Amazon IAM. We added AWS Customer Succcess Stories from Canva, Chef, Crittercism, Daily Voice, ESUPERFUND, Great Lakes Health Connect, JWT, KTC, Netflix, Omnifone, Simple, SmugMug, St. James’s Place, The State of Arizona, The Weather Company and The University of Notre Dame.
Tuesday, March 31	We announced an AWS Console Mobile App Update, with Support for AWS CloudFormation & Auto Scaling Group Edits. We Enabled Comments on AWS Marketplace Product Reviews. We made an Amazon WorkSpaces Update, with New Features for Admins and Users. The AWS DevOps Blog showed you how to Monitor Website Latency Using CloudWatch Logs.
Wednesday, April 1	We announced that Amazon RDS now Supports Data at Rest Encryption Using AWS KMS Keys. We announced that AWS OpsWorks now Supports Amazon Linux AMI 2015.03. The AWS Startup Collection let you know What’s Hot at the AWS Pop-up Loft in April. The Cloud Academy Blog listed 10 Useful AWS CLI Commands You May Not Know. A humorous post on the Cloudability Blog explained that These 13 Parks and Recreation GIFs Perfectly Describe the Reserved Instance Buying Process (oddly enough, Tom Haverford is not involved).
Thursday, April 2	We announced an AWS CodeDeploy Update with Support for On-Premises Instances. We announced that Amazon RDS now Supports Oracle Database 12C. We announced an Amazon Elastic Transcoder Update – PlayReady DRM Support for Smooth Streaming and HLS. We announced Support for Setting Values in the AWS CLI Configuration File for Select Amazon EMR Commands. The AWS Security Blog discussed a Focus on Customers: Next Gen Compliance Enablers. The AWS Startup Collection‘s Startup Spotlight focused on ReadyPulse, SmartNews, Fitbit, and Sprinklr. The Cloud Academy Blog published AWS Elastic MapReduce: A Hands-on Guide to Big Data on Amazon.
Friday, April 3	We announced that Amazon EMR Now Supports EC2’s Dense-storage (D2) Instances. The AWS Big Data Blog showed you how to Process Amazon Kinesis Stream Data Using Amazon KCL for Node.js. We updated the AWS SDK for Ruby, the AWS SDK for Java, the AWS SDK for Unity, the AWS CLI, the AWS Tools for Windows PowerShell, the AWS SDK for .NET, and the AWS SDK for JavaScript. A Post on the Gathering Clouds Blog explained Why HIPAA Compliant Data Storage Belongs in the Cloud. We added iRODS iCAT Server with iDrop Web 2 and Moodle Powered by AMIAGE to AWS Marketplace.
