Dr. Werner Vogels, Chief Technology Officer, Amazon.com

Dr. Werner Vogels is Chief Technology Officer at Amazon.com where he is responsible for driving the company's technology vision, which is to continuously enhance innovation on behalf of Amazon's customers at a global scale. Prior to joining Amazon, he worked as a researcher at Cornell University where he was a principal investigator in several research projects that targeted the scalability and robustness of mission-critical enterprise computing systems. Vogels has held the positions of Research Engineer, VP of Technology and CTO in companies that handle the transition of academic technology into industry. Vogels holds a Ph.D. from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and has authored many articles for journals and conferences, most of them on distributed systems technologies for enterprise computing.

Craig Stires, Head of Big Data and Analytics, AWS

Craig Stires is Head of Big Data and Analytics for Amazon Web Services, APAC. He works with some of the most innovative organizations, as they architect analytics platforms and become data-driven. When he first moved to Asia, in 2001, he was designing and implementing analytics solutions for Customer Engagement, Risk Management, and Operational Analytics. After several years, he founded a startup in Thailand building predictive intelligence software. Following that, he built the APAC Big Data research practice for industry analytics firm IDC. After years of advising clients to build scalable, optimized, and business-ready analytics platforms, the time was right to get hands-on again. Moving to the world's largest cloud services provider has opened the door to work together with customers to build some of their most exciting visions. 

Olivier Klein, Head of Emerging Technologies, AWS

Olivier is a hands-on technologist with more than 10 years of experience in the industry and has been working for AWS across APAC and Europe to help customers build resilient, scalable, secure and cost-effective applications and create innovative and data driven business models. He advises how emerging technologies in the Artificial Intelligence (AI), ML and IoT space can help create new products, make existing processes more efficient, provide overall business insights and leverage new engagement channels for end-consumers. He also actively helps customers build platforms that align IT infrastructure and service spending with revenue models, effectively reducing waste and disrupting how product development had been executed over the past decades.

  • Migration and Workloads

  • Build on AWS I

    AWS Cloud9 is a cloud-based IDE that enables you to write, run, and debug your code directly in a browser. Together with AWS CodeStar, AWS Cloud9 gets developers up and running quickly with a full CI/CD deployment pipeline, team collaboration, local debugging, and fast, iterative development. In this session, we present the key features provided by AWS Cloud9 and its integration with other AWS services, such as AWS CodeStar and AWS Lambda. We also demonstrate how AWS Cloud9 simplifies the development of serverless applications.

    AWS Fargate is a technology for Amazon ECS and Amazon EKS that enables you to run containers without having to manage servers or clusters. In this session, we share the history of our container offerings and explain how AWS Fargate removes the requirement of choosing server types, deciding when to scale your clusters, or deciding how to optimize cluster packing. We also cover how AWS Fargate removes the undifferentiated heavy lifting of managing infrastructure and enables you to focus on designing and building your containerized applications. Finally, we demonstrate how easy it is to get started with AWS Fargate, and we discuss its key features, including networking, integrating with load balancers, security, and monitoring.

  • Build on AWS II

  • Build Your Own Architecture

    The first step in building your VOD solution is setting up the secure AWS landing zone. In this session, learn how to deploy a preconfigured, secure AWS environment into which to migrate your data and raw video content. Then, learn how to ingest your data into AWS by leveraging Amazon S3 Transfer Acceleration, AWS Direct Connect, and AWS Storage Gateway.     In this session, learn how to design, build, and deploy the @WhereML Twitter bot, which can identify where in the world a picture was taken using only the pixels in the image. We dive deep into artificial intelligence and deep learning with the MXNet framework, and we explore the Twitter Account Activity API.

    In this session, we build a web app to interact with a simple event management GraphQL API, enabling you to create accounts, sign in, and view or create new events. We also cover the basics of using React to render a web app, AWS Mobile Hub to provision and manage cloud resources, and AWS AppSync to host a secure and scalable GraphQL endpoint on AWS. Amazon Cognito handles our authentication, and we use Amazon DynamoDB as a NoSQL data store for the API.
