Aqua Security Uses AWS Container Competency Program to Build, Market, and Sell Cloud-Native Security Services

Executive Summary

Aqua Security uses its AWS Container Competency designation to help customers securely scale and automate their cloud-native journeys. An AWS Partner, the company continues to invest in AWS skills, expertise, and services to better reach customers and help them benefit from adoption of container workloads.

Partner Success Story – Aqua Security

As a cloud-native security pioneer, Aqua Security recognized early on that integration, support, and protection for Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, tools, and services would be critical to securing its customers’ cloud-native journeys. This realization translated quickly into an ongoing focus on achieving technology certifications and investing in AWS global partnership programs to ensure that integrations with key AWS services functioned effectively for customers, that customers could seamlessly deploy their environments in Aqua, and that product development was in lockstep with the AWS roadmap for cloud-native services.

Today as an AWS Partner, Aqua Security relies on AWS to help it build, market, and deploy its services—both in customers’ environments and as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).

The AWS partnership also enables Aqua to promote its offerings to AWS customers through the AWS Solutions Library and to access leads through the APN Customer Engagements (ACE) Program. In 2020, an increasing number of Aqua’s opportunities were co-selling referrals from AWS and a growing number of transactions were facilitated via its AWS Marketplace listing. “The AWS Marketplace enables companies to deploy Aqua into their own container environment on AWS with just a few clicks,” says Rani Osnat, Vice President of Strategy and Product Marketing at Aqua.

In tandem, Aqua’s AWS Container Competency ensures Aqua can align its capabilities for securing the build pipeline, enforcing image assurance, and ensuring container immutability with customer adoption of AWS services. “Aqua supports over a dozen integrations with different AWS services and products, especially integrations centered around containers and security,” says Osnat. “With these integrations, we can easily deploy into any AWS environment.”

Aqua recently received AWS Marketing Development Funds (MDF), which it used to run a digital marketing campaign that influenced brand awareness and resulted in conversions significantly above benchmark. “The MDF was truly impactful to support the initiatives we are putting forward,” says Eli Scherr, Director of Cloud Alliances for Aqua. “It has been a key for us in growing the brand and for the tech integrations and co-selling motions we're utilizing.”

The company has also participated in AWS events—including re:Invent, summits, and workshops—and joint marketing efforts including blogs.

Helping Customers Run Better on AWS

As an AWS Container Competency partner, Aqua builds and maintains expertise and integrations to help AWS customers improve how they run their container workloads. This validation was a major consideration for enterprise customers who view their investment in applications built and run on AWS container services as strategic to their business.

In 2020, AWS began enabling customers to deploy containers on AWS Graviton2 processors, which are custom-built by AWS using 64-bit Arm Neoverse cores to deliver excellent performance for cloud workloads running in Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). Aqua Security was able to quickly pivot to support those efforts with purpose-designed container protection capabilities. “Graviton2 is very good for companies that need better efficiency in running heavy compute workloads that are containerized and on AWS,” says Osnat. “Our AWS Graviton2 Enforcer capabilities allow customers to embrace this new service, with advanced capabilities to detect and mitigate security risks.”

Generating Momentum

Going forward, Aqua Security will continue to proactively seek joint value opportunities with AWS. “The quality of the relationship with our AWS Partner Development Manager has been key to our success. We learn about strategic initiatives coming down the pike and are able to partner with the right groups internally at AWS to evangelize the Aqua mission and expand our footprint in the AWS ecosystem,” says Scherr. “I can't say enough about the aligned partnership.”
