Seguridad, Inc. Launches a Pharmacy Evaluation Tool that Helps Patients Prioritize Quality Pharmaceutical Care

Seguridad Inc. partnered with Toptal, a network of freelance software developers, designers, project managers, and more to build Choose My Pharmacy , a tool that allows patients to rate, review, and ultimately choose their pharmacy based on aggregated safety and healthcare performance data.

Choosing a pharmacy can be a confusing and complex task. Medications, especially prescription drugs, are an investment in people's health and they want to make sure their are getting an acceptable return. The right pharmacist can help but without a resource to evaluate the intricacies of pharmaceutical care, patients often select a pharmacy based on convenience rather than quality. The founders of Seguridad, Inc. aimed to solve this problem built Choose My Pharmacy, a tool where patients can rate and rank pharmacies using an easy-to-understand “star rating” assignment. A patient’s choice of pharmacy should be about more than convenience, it should account for safety, efficiency, and the assurance of appropriate follow up. To ensure the ranking tool would properly aggregate and report these data points, Seguridad, Inc. sought a service delivery partner with proven data engineering expertise.

Seguridad, Inc. decided to partner with Toptal, an AWS Advanced Consulting Partner, to bring its vision to life. Toptal’s Data Engineer provided the technical direction needed to build the Choose My Pharmacy tool, the first measurement system for evaluating community pharmacies using data from pharmacies and the National Council of Prescription Drug Programs. By leveraging AWS Lambda, Amazon SQS, Amazon SES, Amazon S3, and Amazon Aurora, the tool automatically aggregates and imports data from pharmacy-specific sources, and outputs the data as a scorecard for the end-user. The tool reports on performance using measures designed for community pharmacies, and vertically integrates with the larger healthcare quality environment.

By virtue of its straightforward design, Choose My Pharmacy allows patients to quickly assess which providers will deliver safe and adequate care for their needs. In addition, the tool enables Healthcare professionals, caregivers, and payors can ensure they are making the best decisions for their desired outcomes. Choose My Pharmacy is about to becoming on a stakeholder in healthcare, and empowering individuals to understand community pharmacy quality.
