AI Gets Physical: The Global Startups Readiness Index

By AWS | 8 October 2026

A new generation of startups is building AI that works in the real world, not just on a screen - teaching machines to see, move, and work alongside people. We surveyed 4,420 startups across 20 countries: one in seven is already building physical AI, pairing AI models with sensors, robotics, and intelligent hardware to perceive, reason, and act on their own. These builders are moving fast - 86% are growing headcount, most are commercially deployed, and they expect physical AI to go mainstream within five years. But only one in four companies say they're ready to deploy today. The economies that close that gap first will capture the growth.

Download the full report for the country rankings, the readiness gap by market, and a closer look at who's building physical AI.
